Sweet Summertime Music -E93 328i BMW Performance Exhaust

For two years, Iíve been saying I was going to do it. Well, I finally put my money on the table and last week had the BMW Performance Exhaust installed on my Cabrio.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the following video is worth about 11,900,000 words.

Since most videos taken of the Performance Exhaust happen from outside the car, I thought Iíd take a different approach and give an example of what one hears inside the car. I also thought Iíd include footage with the stock exhaust as a direct comparison.

For reference, the car is equipped with a manual transmission.

The throttle response seems better with the PE. The first couple of days after the PE install, as I made the shift from first to second, I was literally leaping forward as I was accustomed to giving the car a lot more throttle (keeping the revs higher in the shift).

I love listening to the gurgles and back pressure symphony when coming off the throttle. Plus, itís kind of fun to watch the kids in the neighborhood clear out of the street and onto the lawns when Iím still a half block away.

And the Aurals? Absolutely worth every cent. (should have included the neighbor giving his nod of approval in the video).

*Please forgive me if the video is too long. This was my first ever foray into shooting and editing video.

Enjoy!

Thank you for the enjoyable video and giving me a proper excuse to drop 2K.

Just curious (and keep in mind I'm new here) is this a BMW brand exhaust? I've been going back and forth with that and the Dinan system. Did you compare?

That sounds aggressive yet still reasonable. Love it!

PS I think I saw a speck of dust on your instrument cluster, you may want to look into that.

I ended up having them brushed. They look a lot like the brushed finish that is stock on the 2007-09 335i coupe.

Yes, this is the BMW brand PE. Dinan was not an option for me as my car is a 328 not a 335.

Ditto. They make them for the 328i, too.

I was told by the performance SA at the dealership that the Dinan is slightly less loud than the BMW PE. And since the BMW PE was about $500 less, it was a no brainer for me.

Really? Good looking out. And you can pretty much order it at any dealership or indie? (sorry to threadjack)

You can get the PE all day on ebay for $1099. Showed the dealer and he agreed to match it. An hour of labor to install. NK did the same through an indie I believe. NK is going to ban us for threadjacking. She is a very powerful person. I think she may be with the NSA. She actually knew I was typing this before I even posted.

Great vid Kat. PE is the best mod I've done to my car by far. You can sell your stereo now, you'll hardly use it...you'll be too busy listening to your exhaust note!

Great sound and a very noticeable difference. The video was very helpful. Now I am wondering how a PE would sound on my 335!

I think being on a manual really makes a big difference as you can maximize the effect as you choose. Mine is automatic, so I am not sure it would be as pronounced of a difference, but sure am thinking about it. I was thinking about the performance power kit first, but now maybe the exhaust?

No shortage of things to spend money on! Thanks for posting.

Talking

Congratulations!

My favorite part of the morning is when i first fire up my car and hear the rumble of the PE. And I catch myself rolling my windows down when going through tunnels. I had considered other exhaust systems for several years on my other cars, but the BMW PE is the best sounding (not underwhelming nor overbearing). No future BMW I have will be without it.

Do it. I have an automatic. It's a huge difference for the better.

Oh Dammit - I knew there was something I needed to do! Looks like you figured it out okay though!

Sounds good!

Very "art house" video production too!

Yes, I just kind of fumbled through with default settings and figured if it didn't work I'd do it again.

ps: I learned those "art house" techniques from watching your videos.

Yep, as my indie described it, it's aggressive but won't annoy the neighbors. The other thing I like about it is that once you get to a cruising speed, 60-80 mph and in 5th or 6th gear, it really settles down to where it's not really noticeable especially if the top is up.

Nice. I wish a performance exhaust was available for the 335d. Unfortunately all of the stupid emission crap prevents it.

Yes, but your have all that "low end torque".

Sorry, the guy who owns the company I work for has a 335d and he tends to incessantly yammer about how 'torquey' it is.

He did however immediately notice a difference in the E93's sound even without me telling him I'd made a change.
