They all do something, but big advances in power are with variable boost motors.

No - you're much better served by suspension & differential mods.

Any BMW that is n/a will be hard to get noticable gains put of without the addition of forced induction. As stated in the previous post you will be much more satisfied with a sportier suspension than tiny horsepower gains

The most affordable would be the BMS powerbox. It's a plug and play system and is said to remap the throttle. Has different settings and can be taken out or turned off at any time.

If you have a little more time and money the AA reflash is said to give the most noticeable gains.

A quick search will show you threads on both. Good luck

I would say thicker, stiffer sway bars. The car will lean much less during cornering and will lessen the understeer.

Of course you can also go for sport springs, better shocks, bushings, control arms, etc. They will all improve your car's handling.

The problem with common sense is that it's not very common.

Generally speaking, when it comes to power mods for BMW normally-aspirated engines, you are looking at $80-100 per horsepower. And your butt dyno will not feel any improvement under 10 extra hp.

I was in the same boat with my e39 528i. Fast by no means and instead of wasting money on CAI's and useless chips I put that money into bilstein sport struts, H&R sport springs, eibach swaybars and high performance summer tires. Couldnt be more happy with how it handles and rides. Id take this set up over 10hp on the butt-dyno any day of the week.

Prices will vary a little because theyre different cara but I got a package of Bilstein sport struts and H&R sport springs for $700 from Turner Motorsport, Eibach swaybars can be bought from many online venders, just search for the best price. The sway bara we're about $400 for front a rear. The tires I bought we're Toyo T1 sport tires and we're about $200 a piece. These tires are absolutely incredible though
