What's the max speed people have had out of their ride? And, more importantly, which engine type?

I have the 3.0d (2011). I "dreamt" I found myself on a local motorway with a good visibility for local law enforcement ahead of me. I also dreamt I didn't like that pesky Mini Cooper S keep bugging me, and also drop it to 6 and zipped (before I didn't know it) up to reading not 137mph on the HUD.

I know - a little naughty, but what the hell, it was only a dream ;-)

I guess there is a 10% deviation from true speed though?

I dreamt my X3 was a true "M". My Procharged Mustang was a Cobra. And my Mini S was a JCW. I usually hang out around the speed limit. Tickets and insurance are expensive. Not sure how much a funeral is lately.

Someone who has an X3.5m just like mine did 115 mph and said it would have easily gone higher but its too hard to find open road here unless you're going to vegas.

In my dream, I was driving a 2010 650i that had just lost its carbon filter (weird, I know). Me and my passenger saw 135 before lack of road and good judgement prevailed. I hope in a future dream that I have more road and less traffic because I'm sure that she could have stretched her legs a little further.

On a slightly different note; I will soon be given the opportunity to replace my tires. I am struggling with the dilemma of smaller (original diameter) tires provide for quicker acceleration while larger (+1 or +2) provide for higher speeds. Put another way, the same car will accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH quicker with smaller tires. I understand that all the cool kids are doing it, but is there ANY performance improvement from larger diameter tires or is it strictly aesthetic? They do look very nice but I spend 99% of my time in the 0 to 60 MPH range and feel like top performance will result from lowering the car while maintaining the original diameter tires.
