Question I made a newer BMW Remote App - Gauging Interest

better BMW remote app

Hey guys, I hated the My BMW Remote app, so I built a new version of it for iPhone. I am here to gauge interest of me releasing it to the App Store.

I am definitely considering getting some beta testers as I only have a 2013 X5d, and need other people with different cars to test out additional functionality.

Anyway, you can read more about it here: http://natelyman.com/the-my-bmw-remo...so-i-fixed-it/_a_

Happy to test and send you my UDID, although I also have a 35d.

p.s. BMW will likely send a C&D or submit a take down notice to Apple if you try to release :-/

I'd be interested in your App, as well. Seems you've piqued the interest of the diesel users, as I, too, have a 2013 35d.

I spoke to an attorney and if I remove any BMW branding and clearly state I am not affiliated with them in any way, that I'd probably be ok. I could definitely still get a C&D...

Anyway, my interest isn't commercial, it is to improve my experience with my car.

I'm working to make it fully compatible with iOS6 and iOS7. Once I'm done I'll reach out to get your info so I can have more people test.

On a side note, I love my diesel!

I'll test it when you're ready. I've got a 2013 35i and my buddy has a 2013 5 series.

I'm subscribed to the developer program and am already on iOS 7 beta. The official BMW Remote App does not work on the beta so I'm dying for BMW to get it worked out or some sort of workable alternative.

*BMW remote update just pushed out on the App store. Works on iOS 7 beta 1 now.

Interestingly, BMW just updated their "Remote" app today, to version 2.5

Sadly, it sounds like a step backward (the unlock feature now requires a call to BMW assist, which is crap)

Not upgrading

I was totally surprised they updated the app. At least it is iPhone 5 compatible now. The other updates they list dont feel any different.

If you have iOS 7, PM me your UDID.

Not necessarily interested in beta testing but would buy the final version of the app. The one from BMW sucks.

One question/idea is would this allow you to use find my car even if it isn't parked. If someone steals my car for instance, I would kind of like to know where they are. I think BMW disabled that due to "privacy concerns".

The BMW app restricts showing the car'a location within 1km.

I'm in Chicago right now and I can see where my car is parked in San Francisco.

I can see what the privacy concerns are, but in all practicality most people wouldn't use it to track their spouse.

Interesting, as I also just tried. I am in Europe now, and I can see where I am, but the app won't let me see where my car is in SF. I am pretty sure that it is safely in my garage, but it just says that it is more than 0.6km away and can't display exact location because of "privacy concerns"....asinine in my opinion.

What the hell, this completely negates the app. It's a remote app that doesn't act as a remote.

Too late.
iOS 7 auto updated it for me.

I can delete and install from a backup but the old version doesn't work with iOS7 and the new version is useless. OP, does BMW's implementation of the call in requirement impede your app? Maybe their system no longer allows unlock requests that doesn't originate from their operator input?

iOS 7 is still in beta 1 so kind of buggy. Google iOS 7 ipsw or dmg and the download links will pop up. You'll need to register your UDID for the validation to go through when you're installing. If you want to try iOS 7, send me your UDID and I'll add you so your phone will validate.
