Question Service Indicator Symbol ?

When I startup the car, this service symbol comes up stating I will need service in 2000 miles. Any idea what service will be performed? I have about 56,000 miles on my e90.

A few....you might want to read stored codes. Not just any reader can display BMW codes. Do you not have iDrive?

No I don't have iDrive. Check control still shows 'OK' probably because the car isn't asking for service yet. I guess I will just have to wait and see. I just figured there was a list of services needed to be performed when this indicator went off.. didn't know it could mean pretty much anything.

Check your manual for instructions: scrolling through codes [that can be displayed].

Service Indicator Symbol ?

Checked the service menu? It gives both dates and times of some maintenance items.

  1. Sit in the driveway, engine on, car in park.
  2. Scroll the switch on the front of the turn signal until you see "Service info", not "Check Control"
  3. Press the button on the end of the turn signal to bring up the list.
  4. Scroll through the list with the switch on the front of the turn signal.

There is a scheduled "Inspection" service every 30,000 miles, so that may be it. It does not require an oil service but includes a number of visual, electrical and mechanical checks and a road test. Your dealer can probably provide a checklist so you can decide if you want to have it done - it should cost about 2 hours of labor. Check out your Warranty/Service manual.

2 hours labor = $200 - $250 at the dealer.

For that money, you can do the list yourself. Find it here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...66&postcount=2
