E63 / E64 6 Series (2003 - 2013)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

Transmission reset and standard/sport mode

Hi All,

One of the first things that I did when I recently bought my e63 was the transmission reset. I wasn't happy with an often jerky 5th gear shift. That problem disappeared after the reset and I've been happy except when in sport. That problem is still there, so I'm wondering whether redoing the reset with sport mode selected would reset the transmission for sport. Ay ideas or prior experience?

Thanks in advance.

I would have your fluid level checked, or changed. If the fluid is low, you can possibly get a hard shift. Changing the fluid & filter will usually resolve most harsh shifting problems. There have been some firmware updates to resolve some issues with harsh shifts also.

Good Luck!

To my knowledge transmission reset does not affect or is affected by sports mode. So as HerbP mentioned you may need to see if you have a fluid leak?????

Thanks guys. Since the shifts in normal mode are like butta, I'm not suspecting a physical issue with the transmission. But, a software issue might be the problem, since I'm guessing that's basically what sport mode is. At any rate, I've gone ahead and redone the reset, only this time, I put it in sport mode before pressing the gas pedal. It seems better, but I'll update the thread after I've had a chance to drive it some more.

Cheers!
