The grills are black/black. No chrome at all. Here they are on my '14 space grey X3 after I installed them.

Yep all black - have them on my space gray msport also, so need for another pic of the same. Still don't understand why the m-sport comes with all the trim gloss black and then a chrome and gray grill - looks stupid in my book and way way better with the black grills!

Pulled this shot from another posting here(user: arvid) and really like how he has the black grill with the chrome trim. Having carbon black coming and thinking that the chrome accent will be the right fit for us.

130/pair. Installation can be a pain in the rear if you aren't handy with a wrench and/or have small hands that can squeeze into tight areas, then you may want to let the dealer install it for a nominal fee

Was thinking about getting these for my new X3. However, we both are in Tampa, we both have Space Metal Gray, so I would feel like I was copying! Looks sweet, though, so I may copy away......

I'm not sure where they can be purchased. Just noticed them on a previous post here... http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showth...=522823&page=9
Lookin' pretty sweet, though. If you find them let us know. I just assumed I could get them from BMW but have not yet inquired.

Right your are! Thought they were all black. Anyone have a price for these in Canada? For some reason BMW Canada likes to make everything difficult, including finding the prices of accessories. I guess I'll just email our dealer; I think they don't want to list prices because of the variance in prices when comparing the same products and accessories to BMWUSA!

Found some on eBay cheaper

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-OEM-M-Pe...228667&vxp=mtr

Can anybody comment on removal and installation. Is it snapping rivets out, do they break easily about how long would it take?

It depends on the tools you have and how dexterous your hands are Here's how I did it (I didnt take pics):

1) With hood open, take the wind seal off at the very front that the hood closes on. You will see a bunch of screws holding the top of the bumper on where the grills are at. Remove them.
2) You now will have enough room to slide your hand in to get to the top and sides of the kidney grill to disengage the clips with your hand (use the ones you bought as the reference locator). The plastic bumper has some give so you can get your arm in, but don't push the issue or the paint may crack if overextended.
3) I had some needle nose pliers that had the end bent into a "L" to reach the bottom ones to disengage those.
4) Once you have one grill out, the other is a cinch since you have easier access.
5) With both grills out, pop the new ones in. Punch them in place pretty firmly so all of the clips properly engage.
6) Put the screws back in that hold the bumper. Note: Pay attention to the indentations left where the screws sat as if you dont tighten them down in the same place, it can make the hood end and bumper end not look liked up when the hood is closed.
7) Replace weather stripping. Close hood and admire the new sexyness.
8) Have a beer.

Took me about 30 minutes total.

They are $226 for the pair plus taxes here in Vancouver. Our parts department said they would install "free" because we purchased our X3 at the dealership, however no discount given. BMW US sells it $130.00 for the pair, but without install. My take is order from the states if install myself, or pay $226 and have dealer install them. Haven't decided yet.....

Hey ysalee,
My dealer said that they are $76 a side. Someone is messing something up. I know we pay more for accessories up here in Canada but I think that the dealer is incorrect at $226/pair. Perhaps they are quoting for a different vehicle. I'm going to try to get some clarification this weekend.

We had the black (all black) grills installed prior to delivery and love them. We opted for the standard ones with the white, but I wanted the black on black. I think it was about $120 total (in the deal) to get them.

They wont until you ask it. But still, they are not obligated to keep it.

Isn't the link on the first post for "black on black" grilles (per Drewsky)? Does anyone have a link or the part number for black with chrome trim?

Just came from dealer, today, and parts guy said that he could not find the grill with black fins and chrome bezel, only all black. Photo on BMW accessory site looks like black and chrome but description clearly says black on black. I'd like to know a part #, too. Will probably hunt around tonight and see if I can find something aftermarket.

I read somewhere - I cant recall if it was here in this forum or another one - but I recall someone saying that the style of kidney grills were engine dependent, which would explain why the parts guy had trouble. That might be worth a try. The parts catalog has different part numbers too:

Titanium (stock) x35i: 51117237421 and 51117237422
Black/Black: 51712297589 and 51712297590
Stock on a x28i: 51117210725 and 51117210726

Thanks for the info and parts numbers! You are correct that they were engine dependent, which is why they were not coming up for the 35i. They ship overnight from Germany and will be installed and ready when we take delivery (hopefully later this week).
They were $86 Canadian per side. No charge install, of course.
Cheers

I was finally able to install mine. Love the new look! It was seriously a pain in the ass to install! Also didn't help that I didn't have the proper tools. A 90degree tool would have taken 10mins for this whole job. Glad and surprised I didn't break any tabs while doing this!

I got them installed on my AW X3. They look great with all the M-Sport package finishes which are black, it really completes the car.
