car over heating with a P0597 DTC

I have an 06 325i, over heated last night, pulled over immediately. Looked around and seen no leaks other than the little bit that pushed out of the reservoir, immediately thought the electric water pump went out on me but got it to my shop and was able to hook up my hand held scanner to find the P0597, but my shops computer doesn't have the euro package (I know its lame) and not sure if I should put a tstat in it or water pump, the fact that the code is an open circuit I would think it would allow the car to over heat... any suggestions?

That code would be open or short for the thermostat. The thermostat is an electric valve and controlled by the circuit/ECU. Open electric circuit is not the same as open fluid valve. If it were my car I would change the pump at the same time.
