Repurposing the Redial or Voice Actions Button

2010 CPO with no iDrive. Phone is a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (rooted / AOKP).

It seems the voice actions button has nothing to do with Bluetooth and everything is handled by the car. The phone button affirmatively redials the last person I called via the car.

Ideally pressing the button when not in a call will activate the voice action on my phone or anything using the Tasker app.

Nope. It activates the car's voice interface, not the phone's.

Once you figure out how to turn the "Voice Command" button in to a Mute On/Off feature... let me know!

I wonder if you could intercept the wiring in the steering column from the "Voice Command" button and use the button to control a relay that cuts/enables the mic wire (think push and hold to talk) with some other toggle switch somewhere to control the mode (mic normally on vs. mic normally off with PTT).
