Glovebox Lock

Kind of new with this car and don't know if it's not working properly or if it's me.
the glove box only opens with the key. Doesn't stay unlocked.
Is there a setting for that or do I have a bad sensor?

Console locks and unlocks with door locks OK.

This is by design so that you can remove the key and give the fob to a valet and (depending on the setting of the glove compartment switch) neither the glove compartment nor the trunk may be unlocked. The material below is from the '07 owner's manual (sorry the illustrations did not copy):

"Locking or unlocking separately
The switch is located in the glove compartment. (upper left)
1 Locking the luggage compartment lid
2 Unlocking the luggage compartment lid
Locking separately
Push the switch in the direction of arrow 1 (to the left).
The luggage compartment lid is locked and
cannot be unlocked using the central locking
system.
If you give the remote control without the integrated
key to someone else while the glove
compartment is locked, the luggage compartment
lid cannot be opened. This is an advantage
when valet parking, for example.
Unlocking separately
Push the switch in the direction of arrow 2 (to the right).
Emergency release
Pull the lever in the cargo bay. The luggage
compartment lid is unlocked"

*My switch is set to the right and the glove compartment is always unlocked. It sounds like yours is set to the left (position 1).

Tom

*Just checked and my car doesn't have the switch -which makes sense as it is a wagon!

Thanks for the quick reply Tom -

When the switch inside the glove box is to the LEFT, the trunk and glove box door remain locked, like you said it would. When the switch is to the RIGHT, the trunk releases, but the glove box door remains locked, only opens with the key.

Is there a way I can leave the glove box door unlocked until I want it locked?

Thanks
Dale

In the E90/91/92 the glove box locks and unlocks mechanically using the key. It may be different for the E93.

On the E-93 convertible, when I lock the doors with the top down, the trunk, console, fuel door and the glove box door all lock. When I touch the door handle, they all unlock...except the glove box door. That will only open with the key. I'm thinking it should unlock too. No way to set it to be unlocked and open with the handle?

It does seem odd that your glove compartment locks when the doors are locked with the fob as the manual states that it locks with the key - at least strongly implying that is the sole way to lock it.

And IIRC, my '08 128i convertible never needed the key to open the glove compartment as it never locked. And there was no iDrive option for it to lock with the fob or by touching the serrations on the door handle.
