2011 328i coupe, engine oil sensor

Hi all, I just got my 2011 328i coupe last week. Has 28k on it. Got the engine oil sensor popping up in iDrive today telling me to add a quart. It went away right away and never came back up. Check vehicle info and engine oil is green almost max.

Is the sensor defective? I don't want to add the engine oil and risk overfilling it.

Thanks

More than likely a fluke. Of course a dipstick would confirm this, but we live in this wonderful electronic age.

The circuity is designed fail-safe. If it had failed, you would have a continuous caution light.

Thanks all. I think I will assume that it is a fluke for now. Just like my TPM going on and off at random intervals although the pressure are 32/39 as recommended.

Also is it possible at all to manually check engine oil in 2011 328i?

Not short of draining it.

Was your car fully warmed up? You will not get a reading otherwise.

It may not be. I was only the freeway and had driven for maybe 5 minutes.

Definately not enough time to register properly. I usually drive for at least 10 minutes before I check the level.
