My First bubble

Got my first tire bubble in my Pirelli P-Zeroes

I check my tires once a week, and today I was on my walk around and saw it bubbling out near the rim, I thought it was a shadow at first.. unfortunately not... Off to the dealer I go, I printed out the Pirelli OEM warranty, I'm hoping to avoid any grief. It doesn't appear to be any rim damage, so I think I just need a new tire, lets hope it's a "quick" fix on the dealers part (assuming they have these in stock...)

Not sure if you have the tire n wheel warranty, I had 9 Michelin PS2s replaced by the dealer within the 2 1/2 years of driving my B7 all covered by the TnW warranty for sidewall bubbles and nails.

Hope the dealer takes care of your tire at no cost, but the purchased warranty paid for itself by threefold for me.

I didn't get the tire/wheel warranty, I am still under the Pirelli OEM warranty, I printed it out for them if they want to argue it, I'm hoping it doesn't get to that point. Once I'm out of the Pirelli warranty, I'm going to do the America's tire warranty on all 4, should be cheaper than the $1600 I was quoted for the wheel/tire warranty... (At least that's what I tell myself.. Haha)...

If you can, can you take a picture? I don't have run-flats, but I am curious what it looks like.

I agree with going through America's Tire for tire insurance. When I swapped mine out I made sure to get insurance on all 4 tires, cheap and easy.

Okay, so it's a bit hard to see... It's right under the "99" it bows out, and seems a lot easier to see when the tires have warmed up a bit...

Haha... It is hard to see, but it's definitely bubbled out. My SA said he has to call Pirelli, I directed him to the warranty I printed straight from the BMW CD that came with the car. He went to get it and said it wouldn't be done until at least Tuesday since they still had to get Pirelli to authorize it... I'm hoping this doesn't mean I'll get the run around, especially as my SA started to mention pro-rating the tire off of some warranty he pulled off the Internet....

The X1 is pretty bad, it's quick on the engine, but dang... Another zero line... Blehhhhh

The BMW X1 and X3 both kinda suck. New X5 looks promising but that thing is going up by about 5k for the new model. Well equipped we're talking high 80's now. Would rather get a rover for that money.

Did they increase the size of the new gen X5? If not I'm surprised Munich isn't building a X7 to compete with the GL Class/LX570/Escalade/Range Rover. I havent paid much attention to the new X5, the rear lights are ugly as heck, looks like an enlarged X1. The new rear ends on the X1/X3/X5 look boring

Good luck with your claim, sure hope they don't give you the run around. I checked my wheels just to be sure after seeing your pic's . Thanks for posting them so we knew for sure what to look for.

I like the new X5's with the 315 tires on the back. But have to agree the price is getting out of hand for what you get.

Here are some pics of a tire bubble in case you were wondering, it seems a little more noticeable in these pics. Tire insurance replaced my tire.

Wow

Dumb question, mainly because I never have used run flats for more than 1-200 miles. But why does it seem to keep happening? Is it because the 7 is so heavy?

This adds to my list of why run flats are terrible. I've never had bubbling on normal tires before.

Chris

I am speculating, but I think mine was from hitting a pothole at freeway speed... My wife's Ford Flex had a bubble in her non-run flats, no clue how or why it happened, and it was grossly noticeable...

I asked my SA how much it would cost if I walked in off the street to get a new tire... $600.... Uhhhh... I'm headed to America's Tire today to see their prices as a fallback....

Yeah it's supposed to be bigger with an all aluminum frame, but it's still listed as a mid-sized SUV. Got a call from the cadillac dealer a little while back to let me know the new escalade will drop early '14, with orders being taken end of this year. Interested in seeing what that sucker will look like.

Update: the dealership had to contact Pirelli and got authorization for the replacement, zero cost to me (thank goodness). I was talking to my SA about their procedure for getting the tire replaced, and he mentioned it would have been easier and faster to go to Wheel Works or America's Tire as those places would have replaced it immediately and done the paperwork on the back end.

I would recommend to anyone going into the dealership to make sure you print out a copy of the tire warranty as I was told twice I would have to pay a pro-rated amount until I showed them the actual warranty and its coverage...

I think that's BS. They just don't want to deal with it. I think they use "Dealer Tyre" as the distributor, and the dealership is just like any other tire retailer. I had no problems changing my bubbling Goodyear. The CA just had to look it up (they have it in their systems), after I brought it to his attention. It was fully authorized within the hour, and was changed within 2.

Dang.... They had my car for 4 days.... I asked the SA if BMW gave him any grief over the Pirelli warranty and he said no, he mentioned filing out the wrong paperwork (he filled out BMW's wheel/tire warranty paperwork and needed to fill out one with Pirelli). I asked him if they do a lot of OEM warranty replacements on tires and he said they usually only deal with BMW's wheel warranty so it was new to them, he also said since they have the procedure down now, they know what to do and what paperwork is required. I need to head to Americas Tire and get the warranty from them, seems like it truly would be easier (outside of the fact I hear these companies don't commonly stock these runflats).

On a side note.... Soooo happy to be out of the X1 (while I super appreciate the ability to just have a loaner of any sort), that car is so small and so small, did I mention how small it is??

Also I think the Goodyear warranty is easier to deal with. I also started a case with GY before going to the dealer. But I don't think you can do that with Pirelli. So really not a fair comparison. Still 4 days is too long IMO.

I was under the impression that in order to purchase a Certificate for Repair/Refund/Replacement on a new tire that you didn't purchase from America's Tire, it had to be prior to driving 500 miles on the OEM rubber. I was able to do this 3 years ago on my wife's suv, but maybe the salesperson fed me a line. Any thoughts?

A couple months back, I ended up having to use the certificate on one of the tires due to a big nail puncture that was irreparable. I know I had the option of not purchasing another certificate, but the salesperson pretty much looked at me like it was required, so what the heck, I gave him the business, since I was ahead anyway. By the way, the certificate 3 years later cost me about 70% more (the Michelin tire itself was more or less the same price).

I haven't been down there yet, I did call them a few months ago and asked of they will warranty the tires (with no description of time or use on the tires) and the guy said no problem. I'll update when I make the trip over there.

I can't remember the exact quote I was given, I think it was $30-40/tire?
