A 325i ...

I've pretty much settled on buying a 328i ... either a 2010 or 2011. However, my favorite is a 325i. I have seen a few on the road, including one a neighbor owns. My question: How reliable would a 2006 with 70,000 or so miles on it? I would probably prefer a 325i for looks more than a 328i ... but the number of years and miles is a worry considering the costs of repairs. The 325i, though, is a beautiful car. Don't know much about them other than ... and correct me if I'm wrong ... 2006 was the last year they made them.

2006 was the first year of the E90 body style. In the US, the versions available were the 325i and the 330i. The 2007 and 2008 cars (E90) looked identical to the 2006 models, but were designated 328i and 335i. Beginning in 2009, BMW "facelifted" the E90 sedan, and made some changes in appearance.

Although the 2006 model has been fairly reliable, it had some first-model-year problems. Most people think a 328i from later in the series (e.g. 2010 or 2011 model) is a better choice. For the most part, the later cars have been very reliable.

OP, are you talking about an 06 325 or the previous body 325 from 05 down?

You will have to know the vehicle history to make an assessment as to the future reliability at that mileage.

You want to buy a seven year old car with 70,000 miles, because you like the looks more than the 328i,Hmmmmm.In my opinion the 328i has got great lines, better looking than the 325 and you get a well aspirated six cylinder and no electric power assist steering so you get that nice secure wheel ride,I own a 2011 328i and have owned a 325i and both are wonderful vehicles but in my opinion by CPO and extend your warranty to 100,000miles/6 years, you'll be glad you did.

There WAS an E90 325, I believe the OP is referring to this model.

I would disagree, however, the E46, especially the coupe, had better lines and a far better interior.

IMO, never "settle" for buying a car. My cars have always been my babies, so when I walk out to the garage I get a smile on my face when I see them.

The 06 325i is also down 15hp and 15ft/lb of torque compared to the 328i. Same everything, just detuned. Get a newer one. I went from an 06 to an 09, and the exterior changed a bit, but it's the exact same car on the inside, which is what you'll see more.

I think the OP is talking about a 2006 E46 Coupe, rather than the E90 325i sedan. If so, he should go to the E46 forum, read the wiki and proceed there with any further questions and look for a 325i or 330i Coupe from 2001-2006.

Yeah, I knew I'd get dinged for "settle" ... should have been "decided" ... clearly not settling on anything. Don't get me wrong ... the 328i is a great looking car ... I've just always liked the 325, but could not afford to own one when they are out ... Pretty much going with the 328i.

Try to find a 2009 if possible, as LCI wasn't just an exterior overhaul, but a Navigation package upgrade. The software is much better, and it'll make the car that much more attractive to you.

However, another consideration is that the 2006 E90 325i has the ZF automatic transmission and the 2007 - 2011 E90 328i has the GM automatic. The ZF is tuned for significantly more sporty shifting than the GM unit. This means a 2006 325i could actually feel more peppy than a 2007 - 2011 328i.
