Question Why get 19" wheels?

Now that BMWusa makes you spend $2k to get 19" wheels, is there any advantage to 19" over the 18" other than looks? Not counting the M-Sport line and it's sport suspension of course but for the non M-Sport and DHP, don't you just get a worse ride with 19's and 20's?

I would be worried about the 19 inch wheels cracking. We went with 18 on our Gt just for this reason. On our z4, the 19 inch wheels have a serious cracking problem. The 18s do not. While it has lower profile tires, I think in general with rft the smaller the wheel the better.

FWIW, I cracked an 18" a few weeks ago. I ended up with a refurbed wheel rather than a new one, primarily for cost, but so far, no deficiencies noted. The air leaked slow enough where I was able to keep pressure up to get home and make some decisions on what to do. I thought it was likely a puncture, but didn't see anything. THe crack was on the inside, and you'd only see it if you had it up on a lift, or pulled it to check. It may have started a lot earlier than when I noted the pressure loss - it had a slight vibration at certain speeds.

I installed one of my winter wheels/tires until I figured out what I wanted to do. This happened at about 20K miles.

Thanks. I decided that the 19's were a great deal in 2013 but the spreadsheet toting MBAs at BMW figured that out. Now it's $2100 MSRP to get 19's, Nappa and some other color choices. Not for me. CInnamon and 19's are mutually exclusive ... you can't get both. At the price of the 5GT, I AM GETTING CINNAMON. lol
