Need to post something...

2009 335i driver's side cup holder gets stuck. I had this replaced because it just gave up the ghost. Now it doesn't shoot out nice and smooth after multiple uses. It seems that it either gets bent down from heavy drink cups or needs some type of lubrication. Any advice? No issues at 43K other than that right now. Car sounds and runs too well for my own good. Can't wait to get non run flats next week.

Silicone grease worked for a few months, but it gets hot here, and the grease must have run. I'm going to try again with some other product.

You can find krytox and the cheaper equivalent on Amazon. It's resistant to heat, does't drip, doesn't have any odor.

Re: Need to post something...

So I took the cupholder out and put some lithium grease on the rails towards the back of the unit. Thing pops out in a hurry now. Thanks for the help. Pretty easy fix. I used to repair electronics and this is what is used on plastic gears.

I don't use the cup holders in the 335 very much, they just seem to be two fragile. The 135 has a real solid one that clips to the console on the passenger side, very rugged.

I think it might be from putting medium size cups or larger in them. The passenger side is shorter and stouter but not used as much. We'll see how it holds up. These things are kind of like the seatbelt extenders. Put new ones in of those and they grab 100% of the time now. Springs just gets weak or small tweaks cause them to not work. I'll take these fixes any day over engine compartment problems.

Update....the cupholder is working fantastically!!! I even pushed the envelope today and got an extra large raspberry iced team from Taco Bell (can only afford to eat there with this car) and it didn't brake the holder or ruin the action from closed to open!!! German engineering is the bomb!
