That old chestnut...vapor barriers

We have had a week of rain where I live and it seems the rear vapor barriers have finally failed (03 530i).

Unfortunately 3M don't sell the butyl tape over here anymore

I rang my local BMW dealer and they have a product they use and will sell it to me by the metre for $9 per metre

Anyone know how much is needed per door, I was thinking about 1.5m per door so 3m all up.

Was also looking at this product a mate at work showed me from Bunnings

http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_...bType=products

All advice appreciated.

Regards

Gibo

vapor barriers

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately the auto glass shops down here don't use the Butyl tape anymore, 3M don't supply it in Australia.

I think my best best is to get the product BMW Australia uses, at $9 a metre the job should still be quite cheap to do, I would rather do the whole door again than try and re-use the old stuff.

Anyone know how much they used per rear door when they did theirs?

I picked up some non 3M window weld from my local autoparts store you may have similar luck in Australia. It was called Ribbon Sealer and came coiled up in a flat box, kinda like a small pizza box but flatter. It was hidden on a bottom shelf, but I did find it.

As far as length goes looks like the box said it was 4.57m long and that did the two rear doors with none left over. Although I followed the OEM lines of the adhesive plus added a little more on two of parts of the door that had not had any before. So you can probably get away with less than 4.57m for two doors.

Thanks Solo, I will have a look at some of our Auto part stores and see, failing that I will get the BMW dealer tape.

Thanks for letting me know what length I need.

Cheers
