Stall bad gas or fuel pump?

'02 X5 3.0 with 175k. Drove during 100+ weather but car not overheated it stopped running and couldn't get it started at the light. Had it towed home. Has less than 3 gallons of gas (idiot light off). It started and ran for 3 minutes. Put additive and 5 gallons of 91 into tank and ran without stopping for 8 minutes so I drove to get more gas and ran for another 15 minutes. Everything is running as usual for the last two days 60 miles. I don't want to leave my wife and kids stranded again. Bad gas, bad fuel pump, or something else?

Check engine light?
It could more than those listed.
Fuel pump seems logical, but you should get codes read for further diagnosis.

Problem found. I replaced the fuel filter (it had 178k miles) and the lines Inside the fuel tank that take gas from one of the saddlebags on the driver-side siphoning gas to the passenger side where the fuel pump using the return fuel line.
