Radio stays on for 30sec after key out

So I found older posts with no resolution to this concern so im gona try again. My radio stays on for about 30 seconds after the key is out, no radio display or controls and stays on when the doors are opened. This is a 02 wagon btw with the mid and cd in the dash.

I checked all fuses, if I could find the radio module(found the amp) i would proceed with my electrical testing.

It all started when I was trying to get my rear wiper to work again. I just put a new engine in over the weekend so im trying to make the car perfect but the wiper motor control board is toast. I can get it to wipe and the squirter to squirt by powering different wipers but it wont work with the lever.

So anyhow now I have this stupid ass radio staying on thats pissing me off. Im not sure if this is a feature that can be turned off or if something is not right. Fuses are all good in the correct locations. I dont think its the ignition switch cause my moms wagon has that problem and its nothing like it. HELP PLEASE!,

It maybe an "programmable" feature that the dealer can turn off. Similar to programming the keyless remote to unlock all 4 doors on the first unlock vs the 2nd for the other 3. But you need software or something. I found one indy that can do it, but was having issues with his laptop. The dealer can do it if it's a program feature item. I'd start there. Sound like 30 sec is too coincidental. Drive me nuts to have to press the unlock button twice to unlock all the doors. One item I like on my E90. I can do all the preference features myself via the idrive or instrument panel, w/out having to have it "programmed" by a dealer or indy for $100.

My buddy who owns the shop at the corner has the fully loaded snapon scanner. Ill have to see if there are some programable parameters I can adjust.

If I press the power button with the key removed it turns the diaplays on and will stay on for 20 minutes. Or I can turn it on and then off and it stays off. Just annoying. Sometimes I have to turn the radio on also when I start the car. Its annoying. I want my radio on when I turn the car on and the radio off when I shut it off.

Leaving just the sound no display on when turn the key off. Where is the radio module on this thing? I tore the whole back of the car apart all I can find is the amp. I also removed the MID panel in the dash but thats just a display.

Pretty sure the radio tuner is built into the CD player.
I have the cassette deck in my car, that's where my radio is.

If you have the MID and in-dash CD player...then you're staring right at the "radio tuner" when you're looking at the in-dash CD unit.

If you have the in-dash cassette or CD...the radio tuner is incorporated into that unit. If you have the nav screen/monitor...then the radio tuner is a separate component located in the trunk/cargo area. On the sedans, its in the left side of the trunk along with the other A/V components...on the touring, it's below the rear left cargo floor. You have to lift the cargo floor, then remove the rear left plastic floor piece (remove approx 3 plastic nuts then lift off/out) and you'll see the radio tuner.

But again, this is your radio tuner if you have the in-dash CD player:

Here's some NG (new generation) radio info. BTW does the radio turn off when you press the LEFT knob on the MID?

Yeah it sounds like the KL R, now how do I make it stop?

Something is commanding it to stay on via the communication network. I pulled the CD player/radio out and tested everything with the power probe hoping there would be power sent to the radio on one of the circuits to turn it on and off. No luck, its definetly being commanded over the network

What I take away from the info is...turn the radio OFF while the ignition is still on. (KL R = ignition position 1)

^ But you're driving a 10yr+ old BMW. Same difference. These old cars are a money pit and headache. They just warrant fixing them up. Old Cavalier's do not. The way it is.... I've had a laundry list of problems with my E39 since Sept '12 when I got the car. I've managed to knock out a ton of work and money in the past 10 months.

Its soo close, all I have left to fix is this radio and a new rear wiper motor and nothing will be wrong with it. I understand a 180k mile car is gona have issues but I perfer to deal with them when they come up and not let them compound into the car being a turd. I put a new engine in last weekend and had all the bugs worked out under the hood in 24hrs. With the money Ive got in it, it needs to be perfect and im so close to being there.

I worked as a master mechanic for a decade and I feel like im being beat by this stupid radio thing at the moment and its frustrating me.

D/C battery cable for a good 5 minutes, reconnect and see what happens.

Awlready left them off overnight, no change. Think it needs a new radio module. My mid display is a mess anyhow so I think im gona replace the business cd and mid face in one swoop and hopefully it is resolved. If I actually have time to get to the salvage yard to pick the stuff up.

Go to the trunk and check Fuse 58.
It is a 10A fuse.

Sometimes a visual check of the fuse looks good but the contacts are the issue.
Some people have luck when they simply remove the fuse and re-insert it.
It is a free, no cost repair LOL.

What's this about the speed-controlled volume not being available in cars fitted with DSP?
