328i stalls..

Hey all. My 2007 328i has had a problem lately stalling lately when I hit the clutch at low speeds with the ac on at a higher speed. It doesn't do it every time and only does it with the ac on. Most of the time it saves itself but the car shutters and the engine will drop well below idle speed (200-300rpm) then bounces back. Thanks in advance for the help.

Do some research on the DISA actuator for the N52 engine. I take it you have no engine light as of yet?

They should be there until cleared.

Here we go again....Auto Zone has a generic reader that can't give you hidden, shadow; BMW proprietary codes.

THIS

or

THIS

Any decent BMW Indy'll have one....heck, I have one....so can you. Now about those VANOS solenoids....??

I wouldn't use brake cleaner on anything under the hood. I would take this to an independent shop to be examined.

I did mine with some MAF sensor cleaner, worked a treat. Just make sure you have nozzle on it so you can put it in the little wholes on the vanos solenoids. BMW also recommend using presurised air, but I don't have a compressor so I used the MAF cleaner and then blew in it a bit lol Also when you are done cleaning them, swap them around to see if you get a different problem or new codes.

I don't know if this is your issue though, but it is an easy thing to do and start with.

OP I wish you luck, you don't appear to have symptoms related to this disassembly; but hell, if you are comfortable taking all that stuff apart, it's worth a shot. Until you know what code was/is stored, you're just wasting time, money and increase the chances of breaking something like those cheap plastic connectors on the solenoids. Let us know what your solution is, Kirk out.

I definitely know what the VANOS and the solenoids are.. And I also thought it to be a bit far fetched that it would be causing my issues. But, I never rule anything out. I've just never heard of walnut blasting them.. I'm thinking more of a vacuum leak or something to that degree. Car does not do it when the ac is off or at a low level. And if I blip the throttle right as I hit the clutch it doesn't do it. It only does it if its riding on a gear, in which case the fuel is cut off. For instance, if I'm rolling down a hill in 2nd or 3rd gear.. The car will almost stall and catch its self.. Kinda like its gasping for a breath. Only sometimes it stalls. I will get codes read this Saturday if I can.. Only problem is I live 40 min from the nearest BMW location.. So it's difficult to get the time during business hours for them. I appreciate the help and any opinions. BTW, aside from this issue car seems to run very smoothly as usual.
