Exclamation 1990 525i driver seat broken

Alright everyone, I really need help with this one; this car is my daily driver. Today it was hot so I reclined my driver seat just a bit to cool off my back, I don't remember the last time I moved the seat. After work I got back in my car and tried to bring the seat back forward but it would not. The motor sounded strong but unhappy, like it couldn't grab what it needed to to bring the seat forward. After a few attempts the seat fell all the way back to lay on the back seat, as it still does now.

Needless to say this was an incredible inconvenience, and I would really like to fix it as soon as possible. Please, if you have any idea what I can do it is greatly appreciated.

This sounds like a version of 'the cable' problem. The inner gets short over time and winds out of the actuators. You have to take off the seat back, remove the cables; shorten the outer so the inner engages at both ends and re-assemble. When you do make sure the actuator angles are the same or you get a twist in the seat back. Then it should work OK. Also check out the post on twisted seat It's the same process on a different cable..

I've just changed my wiper blades and now my reverse lights don't work. Should I change my fuel pump relay?

I bitched about having to do this fix for a while.. Sounds worse than it is..

Takes maybe 15-20 minutes + time to remove the seat..

All you really do is, remove 4 screws, motor comes out and cables pull out then too..

You trim the housing of the cable a 1/4 inch so the cable sticks out more.. And you stick it in and back together. Done.

Here is the thread i just posted about this right below this one with the guide to fix it.
