SS Side Window Trim

There is a Chinese company selling SS side window trim that goes around the entire windows. Pictures look very nice. I did but the SS trunk protector from these people and it was as described and actually looked better than the picture. I am tempted to order but would love to know how the parts (using 3M tape attached) looks up close once installed on the rubber. The description to search on eBay is Stainless Stain Window Frame Trim for BMW x1 E84 2010 2011 2012.

The bigger question is whether or not you want chrome on your x1. There is a wider debate across other auto makes about how the chrome look cheapens the car... I like that there is minimal chrome on mine (only the grille).

I checked out this seller's other items and they offer a plethora of other chrome things.
These range from the useful (rear bumper tailgate protectors) to the ridiculous (chrome fog light surrounds) to the sublime (a chrome strip that fits over the bottom of the trunk lid). You would have to decide whether you wanted to bling up your ride.

I think chrome can be tasteful or gaudy. Having exposed rubber around the tops of the doors looks a bit cheap on a $40k car to me. It just looks unfinished or could it be cost cutting. To be honest, the finish around the doors of my Scion xB have a more finished look. Love the X1 but do believe there is room for improvement. I would love to see the SS trim around the windows on an X1. We bought the SS piece that fits inside the trunk and the fit is perfect.

I had not thought that out thoroughly. I suppose a small amount of chrome (stainless) around the window frames might improve the look. I would have to think it over. The trouble with those ebay listings is that the pictures are not really that good. You also have to be good at installing those pieces. You might be able to peel the piece off real quick and straighten it a few moments after installation but after that the 3M tape (or the Chinese equivalent) will hold it tight.
