Flush and fill with new fluid. It is safe to drive. Many cars never require it. That said, it is good practice to replace it periodically because brake fluid tends to absorb water.

Not to completely hijack, but I've got the same service light on. How much does a brake fluid flush and fill usually cost?

Sorry, new to BMW.

Fluid is like $20. The labor can't be more than 2 hours.

I would never know how to tell if they really did this service or not to my car. I've never done it on any of my cars but have bled my brake lines before. Anyone done this themselves on their BMW? It looks fairly simple if you have the right tools:

I've done this myself. It's not a hard job to do. There are DIY videos out there. I like Bavarian Autosports:

Brake fluid is nasty stuff that can ruin your paint and your day, so if you're not a patient person with some confidence, it's probably worth it to have the dealer do it for you.

You should flush and fill every two years, it's true. If you get to the point where you do it yourself or if you track your car at all, once a year is much better.
