intake vanos solenoid problem

Hi all!!
I did a scan on my car e60 523i and it showed a P0012 code. I used inpa.
Also it says:
P0012 Camshaft position
Timing over retarded
Mechanically jammed
Curent fault not present

from what i was told its intake vanos solenoid valve, also i was told to swap the intake and exhaust solenoids to see if the fault follows the move...
but it doesnt, its stays on intake. what does it mean then?? where is the problem now??
thanks for all help
greg
