X6 E71 / E72 (2008 - 2014)
The BMW X6 luxury crossover went on sale in April 2008 as a 2009 model year. BMW referes to the X6 as a Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) as it combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, xDrive and all-weather ability) with the stance, styling and roof line shape of a coupe. The E71 X6 was built off the E70 X5 (2007 - 2013) platform at BMW's Spartanburg, SC plant. Total worldwide sales were just over 235,000, sold mostly to the BRIC countries. US total sales was 34,082 vehicles.

Steering wheel adjuster died

So I had the x6 in for service as one of the levers in the cup holder wasn't working (was like that when I got it). They replaced that cup holder which I guess necessitated taking apart the center console. When I picked it up the steering wheel adjuster wasn't working so I brought it back in and scheduled to return the next morning.

They told me some mechanism is busted so they ordered a whole steering column just to get that one part. All of this is under warranty but they didn't tell me if one led to the other. Anyone know if the two are somehow related or is this coincidence?

As Judge Judy says, "I don't believe in coincidences." My very limited experience is very consistent across dealers and companies, from a Florida (BMW) breaking my glove box on my E34 while replacing cabin filter to requiring multiple trips for separate issues unresolved the first time (Texas Audi dealership). I just haven't had enough positive experiences to trust them...if I had the choice I would ask them to take off another 5k from invoice and I'd choose a local Indy that I trust to service my car from day 1.

Just my opinion...as an aside, perhaps there is a thread for reliable, quality service dealers? I haven't done a search, but if not it might be worthwhile starting such a thread.

Frankly I agree. Coincidence is too easy here
