Looks like Macklemore won't be a buyer then.

Interesting article, especially this quote from one of the editors

Quote:
However, like all the other BMW 7-series that I have driven with the turbo V8, throttle tip-in remains my one major gripe. When I start getting into the pedal, I want/prefer more immediate response, but even in this B7 there's a lull before things get going. Sure, when this baby gets going it flies forward like it's nobody's business, but that delay at throttle tip-in just bugs me.
Every 750 (or other BMW V8s) that I've driven exhibits the same behavior. Never have any throttle delay, though, with my 740.

I also have that throttle delay and don't like it. Can't believe the tester got a drivetrain malfunction though... I had quite a few of those on our old B7 (which BMW ended up replacing).

I notice the turbo lag (delay) coming off the line. Something that is inherent in a lot of turbo cars.

Just curious, how pronounced is the turbo lag? is this exclusive to the 750 and B7 V8 or does it also apply to the 740?

Weird...in my '12 RR Ghost with a twin-turbo V12 (BMW made)...Zero turbo lag, I mean zero!! And we've had 3 Bentley GTs with the twin turbo W12 engine...and Zero!! turbo lag (even more responsive than the RR/BMW 12 cyl engine). I do not understand why BMW has this issue, and the drivetrain malfunctions, battery issues....Sad and annoying!

I have the old 6 speed RWD, I don't feel any throttle delay, as for the turbo lag it's very hard to detect, only on very hot days turbos take like half a second to come in.

hey richard has the n63 tune you installed helped with the throttle delay at all? once the car is moving on the highway the passing ability is great, but it's pretty annoying to have a delay when you floor it to pass someone in the city

The issue relates not to turbo lag, but throttle delay (when pressing the accelerator, there is a delay before the engine responds). I've experienced zero turbo lag in various BMWs, but in the V8's, lots of throttle delay at least when driving around the city) Highway is a totally different story with no throttle delay....just sheer torque and power.

My car is still fairly new to me but I due experience the delay a bit, when trying to change lanes quick or things along those lines can be a pain. When im just trying to floor it for no reason, I kind of like the little delay and then the amazing power it puts down haha.

It's hard to say because I installed the tune the same day I picked it up. I drove the car stock for a while then put the tune on and noticed it pulled better. After driving for a couple of days and giving the car a chance to adjust to my driving style, it does seem to be improving. My gut feeling is that with my '12 w/ Dinan stage 2, it seemed to come out of the hole a little quicker. The difference is very small in my opinion. My plan was to head to the track tonight to get some numbers stock, and then with the tune. Things got pretty busy today and I decided to put it off. I only have about 200 miles on the car and would like to put a few more miles on before heading to the track just to make sure I don't have any trouble. Doesn't look good if you have to have the car towed from a race track, lol.
