With a wife and 10 month old baby there's no way I could get the next M3/M4.

If I was single I would be in a M3 for sure.

I got my first F10 a few weeks before my daughter was born and now I should be picking up my second one around her birthday lol

Well, I would have gone for the 550i xDrive simply because the horsepower (445hp) and torque (480 lb-ft) are so high that stability is compromised with rear wheel drive . This is one of the key reasons the e63 amg 4matic is faster than the m5. For reasons of safety, xDrive is essential when one is dealing with high hp and torque.

In fact a 2014 BMW 550i xDrive is nearly as quick as an m5! If we tested 0-62mph times without applying the m5's cumbersome launch control there may be only 0.2 seconds difference. BMW may have been forced to revise the 550i engine to further differentiate it from the 535i. Furthermore the latter car has recently been trounced by the Audi A6. Since Audi have no RS6 sedan, tbe 550i xDrive is now king of the castle! It is faster than the A6 and the Merc E550. The 550i xDrive has become a mouth watering proposition.

Audi has the S6, which has been shown to compare very well performance wise to a 550xi. The S6 has a sub 4 second 0-60 according to tests (either road and track or car and driver, forget which one). Now the lease residuals on the other hand...

My 550 has dinan stage 2 (501 hp / 580 lbs torque) and rear wheel drive isn't really an issue, it's actually quite fun. You'll be happy and fine.

Since the 2014's all come with launch control I am curious what kind of numbers these cars will be putting down.

I figure if the M5 has no trouble getting more HP down to the ground I should be fine especially with 20x10 285 Michelin PSS tires.

Performance figures are becoming ridiculous. Edmunds tests the M5 0-60mph and gives 4.5s. Car and Driver give 3.7s! It's just ridiculous the disparity in results. So when BMW give 4.5s for the 2014 LCI 550i I wonder whether it's accurate and why does Car and Driver consistently sqeeze out faster times than anyone else. Are they taking us for a ride?

Watched a good video on the m6 and how the acceleration was pretty lousy without using launch control.

Fast forward to 12:55. That's really disappointing because BMW launch control is absolutely painful to use. No one will use it on a daily basis.

I keep hearing that BMW's Launch Control isn't very good or intuitive. Anyone know why? Also, is Launch Control essentially something that can be harmful for the tranny? I.e is it something that you would't want to use like many times a day (using that as a gauge as to how much stress it can put on the car and how much the car can take of it, if that is indeed the case)

It's definitely not good for the car, increased stress on the clutch assembly. Not sure how launch control would work in an automatic transmission though. Curious to hear the technical description.

Yes. I would have raised hell if I didn't. Had a 650GC for a week and current loaner is a stripper X5. Wife loves the space but there is nothing fun about this thing. It's purely a point A to B car. I can't wait to get the 550. Going from the 3.5 x5 to that is going to feel like rocketship .

I went in for a simple software update and to fix the battery discharged warning that should have been a 1 day job and now it turned in to this mess. BMW can't supply the dealer with one simple part and it appears to be a worldwide issue.

A family member of mine has a '12 650 and I have a '13 550. They have the same engines and both at M Sport but the 650 sounds like a V8 should. I do hope they make then the same in the new 550 coming out. My gut says that they wont but I can always wish.

So after 45 days at the dealer I finally picked up my 535. The dealer agreed that I can drive my 535 until the 550 arrives which works out for me since i need to remove my parts...

The SA pull up in my car and the first thing my wife sees.....huge gash missing on my pass side skirt. Looks like they hit something low like the pegs on a lift or something. The side skirt is dented and a chunk is missing and the front of my bumper has a sharp scratch about 4" long that is itched into the plastic. After all this delay I end up picking my car up to see it damaged. The SA went to pull the pics of the car when it was dropped off to make sure my car didn't come in with the damage and I flat out told him you can check all you want but my car was pristine when it came in. Sure enough they admitted to the damage after looking over my file.

They are lucky I already have another car on order because I would have been livid seeing my baby damaged. At this point i don't really care as long as i'm not liable for the damage which they will put in writing for me plus I will be seeking some sort of compensation for this. My sales guy which is a good friend of mine will be taking care of this for me so i am not worried. Just sucks seeing my car in something less than flawless condition.

Jesus. That's insane. Unbelievable the lack of care some of these serviceman treat cars with. Honestly one of my biggest paranoia's when it comes to the upkeep of my cars is giving to to other people, most notably service. ESPECIALLY on a black car, it makes me crazy to think of how even the littlest carelessness could result in what I'd consider "damage".

It's due to the complicated sequence (Nintendo easter egg style) of engaging it.

Several times I have gotten my car back from service, there is grease on my Oyster Nappa seats.

I can't believe how careless some people are.

ETA hopefully end of August but realistically I would say early September unless the stars all align perfectly from the car being produced, sent to the port and hop on a ship without any delays.

I had the GC for only a week then had the X5 loaner. Just got my 535 back (with some dealer "mods") last weekend and in the process of de-modding at this point.

That's not too bad. Just enough time to get ready! Great.

Didn't you dislike the unbelievable cheap feel to the interior of the X5? You must be happy to have your car back.
