Mein Auto: Wasp & Duc
DIY: Air filter replacement on 35d

Parts

BMW p/n: 13-71-7-798-342
Mann: C 33 001
Mahle: LX 2641

I also recommend some CRC 05110 Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner

Tools

A flathead screwdriver

Location

Under the engine cover

R&R Procedure

Remove the engine cover by lifting the front and pulling straight forward. Do not lift it too much, just enough to undo the clips and clear the oil filler cap

Undo the 5 clips holding the airbox cover. Using the screwdriver gently pry them undone

Using the screwdriver release the clamp between the MAF and the intake duct

Unplug the MAF electrical connector by pushing in on both tab and pulling the connector straight out

Pull the intake duct to separate it form the MAF

Lift the front of the airbox cover and pull straight out to remove

Place a clean rug into the intake duct to avoid dirt of tools to enter. Remember to remove it before reassembling

Remove the old air filter cartridge and replace it with the new one. Ensure the new one sits properly into the housing

I suggest you also clean the MAF with some MAF cleaner like the "CRC 05110 Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner": using the supplied straw, spray generously, let it dry, spray some more.

Reassembly is reverse. Again, remember to remove the rug from the intake duct.
