There's your answer. You have a warranty, go use it. Transmissions not something you want to mess with.

Is there a difference between the warranty the dealer gives and the used dealers give I bought the car from car dealer in Newport. It gave me full warranty.

Was it a BMW dealer? You didn't specify. You need to ask the people you bought it from, whether or not they'll cover transmission repairs. If they do, you're all set.

Take it to a dealer and show them your warranty papers - they will diagnose the car, file a claim with the warranty company who will send out a claims adjuster to start the process of approving the work. My car has been in the shop for 2 weeks going through this entire process. Of course things may be different in Canada. Also read the fine print on your warranty.

just tell them in writting, that if its not covered under warranty, DO NOT do anything till they contact you first and you sign papers with the exact dollar amount you will pay

but I hope you come out smelling GOOD and a new Tranny, but not a cross dresser

2 WEEKS.....2 WEEKS.....OK Schwarzenegger, enjoy your off-world visit, but hey....transmission coulda been fixed 2 days tops.

If they worked on 'em, which - mystery! - they don't.

Grrrrrrrrr....

So what do they do? Try and drain and refill and if that doesn't work, swap out the transmisison?

That's what a deeler'll do. Step's not much diff than any other automatic to work on....likely you have a gunky solenoid. Excellent maint: Drop the pan, take the valve body out & clean that bad boy.

Not to sound dumb, but you have done THIS already?

Actually my car at 80K miles is in for both differential seals leaking, an oil pan leak and suspected bad VANOS solenoid leading to CEL/limp conditions. About $5K at dealer rates but on an extended warranty. It took 4 days for the dealer to actually look at it and another 5 days for the claims adjuster to do his thing and then get approval for the work. My $3K extended warranty has now paid for itself close to 4X over.

I'm basically getting this car fixed in preparation for selling or trading. I have warranty coverage for another 6 months but am tired of it being at the dealer (10 days last December for waste gate issues and failed water pump).

On the flipside I've had an extended 2 week test drive with an F30 Sport Line with Premium Package.
