I've been seeing some posts around multiple locations about this being done. It is supposed to drastically improve up/down shifts with AT. But I can't seem to find out if it's a device or coding? does anyone have any other info on this? I feel like i'm running into a wall.

It's a reflash of the transmission software. It's not coding.

Is this a hard process to do? I would love to do it, but I can't seem to find any in depth DIY on it.

A quick tutorial, or link to a descent DIY would be greatly appreciated! Any words of wisdom on the issue from experienced techs?

There is a diy guide on this forum and pretty much every bmw coding forum. There is even a video on youtube.

The process isn't hard but you have to setup winkfp correctly. Not doing so, you risk bricking your EGS module, which is your transmission module. You won't be able to shift into drive if you mess the flash up.
