Thanks! It's a nice review with some very nice pictures. I like the black/white scheme.

Maybe, we'll finally start seeing some road tests for the Dinan F10.

I am going to be getting the S2 done to my 550 when it arrives from the dealer after ED (my dealer does Dinan installs). I have a stupid question. How can I be sure that they actually did the upgrade? When I was on ED I was in the break-in period, so I didn't do any mashing of the throttle, so I don't have a basis of comparison from that perspective. I don't think the dealer is going to rip me off, especially since I have known my SA for years, but I guess my cynical side has the nagging thought in my head...

I did before and after dynos. You can also buy a boost gauge or bavarian technic scanner to monitor boost - should read ~14.5psi after flash.

Unfortunately before and after dynos aren't a possibility because I am having it put on when I pick the car up. I could go for the scanner, but paying $300 for a limited use item (for me) isn't really a great solution either. I was hoping there was something more simplistic, seeing as the closest track is 2+ hours from me. I suppose I could just do a dyno after the fact, as it should show the increased numbers...

Any other suggestions?

You're in a tough spot if it is being installed before you pick it up. Regardless of the method you use, you won't have a baseline to compare against.

I would take delivery and put some miles and get used to the power and the vehicle (get a dyno baseline/track etc ) then have the S2 installed.
just my personal opinion as I need to make sure $3k for 2+psi is really there .

Mehhhhh at Dinan, anything below stage 4-5 is a waste of money IMHO our cars can handle the PSI increase with out issues, BMS stage 1 puts down the same numbers down for $400

I didn't do a before, but 12.5@112 was my after with my 550xi. With a lighter driver, 12.3 or 12.4 could be possible. I also measured 0-60 in 3.9sec. IIRC the best measurements for a stock 550xi were12.8@108 and 0-60 in 4.5 which was tested by Autoweek. The 550i results were in the 13.x sec plus range.

I thought BMS was only 420hp and it doesn't include any of the Dinan built-in safety features that prevent those huge engine repair bills that Dinan covers anyway.

If one doesn't care about the risks, BMS can always be put on top of a Dinan tune.

Wow running super strong, but with out a before is hard to tell what you really gained with Dinan no? Curious what your car would of ran stock!
Thanks for the info.

One's an actual tune, while the other is an add-on that tricks the existing tune into thinking the parameters are something different other than reality. The add-on can be used with proper tune whether OEM or Dinan.

I thought about doing this myself, but I decided that I liked having a warranty.

There is a big flaw in your assumption, both tunes bring the PSI in the car higher than stock.
Dinan claims they have also remapped how the fuel enters the engine.
So you cannot add one on top of each other, because one has fuel mapping the other one doesn't.

I bet my money i will put same times as the Dinan stage 2 with my BMS stage 1 this weekend.

Exactly this. I don't want to do anything that would take a chance of having non covered issues.

I think I am going to have to do some testing to make sure everything is right. Oh darn, guess i will just have to go to the track

Dinan tune is very conservative i highly doubt it will do anything to the engine.

Yes, and they back it up with the warranty, which is why I will be doing a Dinan S2 and not a BMS as you suggested in an earliest post.

why would someone need warranty on a mild tune? your car can handle that much PSI with out a problem, the newt N63TU engine is exactly that same car, same engine and a little more boost. I think Dinan is a waste unless you going stage 4-5 as said prior.
