how to price a 2001 z3 roadster

Hi guys,

I'm looking to sell my 2001 z3 roadster. Its a 3.0L 6-cylinder 5-speed manual, silver soft top convertible, with black leather interior. It's only got about 25,400 miles on it so there aren't a lot of other vehicles to compare it to. What price is appropriate? The difference between blue book and, for example, cars.com is massive. It's in great shape but needs new brake pads on the front, fluids changed and detailing.

I have also never sold a car privately before, so advice on that alone is warranted.

PS I am selling it because I'm moving to a right hand drive only country and can't bring it with me. It kills me, i love this car. It runs great and looks awesome in any garage.

I'd list at 13K, but be prepared to negotiate. Low miles on these cars, at this age, is not as big a bargaining chip as it would have been a few years ago. Time takes it toll on Z3's , especially if they aren't driven much. On the plus side the wear on the interior should be low and still look very nice. You have a desirable engine too. Note Z3M roadies are going for 13-15K right now.
Sell before fall/winter sets in up there, not many buy when the season is over. GLWS

$12-$13K is what I'm hearing from dealerships...I think it should retail for more than that. Discuss? I have heard that my engine/sport package is the most desirable for a z3.

The miles ARE low, but it has been driven regularly since I got it in 2008.

dealerships? you ask for advice then bring up the hated dealerships?

okay, if you're willing arrange financing and provide the other advantages dealerships charge, go ahead and ask for dealership prices.

if you find the right person, one who falls in love with the car, you can charge almost anything.

Sorry, I'm a noob. I meant used car dealers...I haven't talked to the local BMW dealer yet. I assume they are basically the floor on pricing.

If that's a bad word though, I will say no more...Thanks for the prompt replies, guys. Keep it coming?

Ide agree with these guys, go for 13k or best offer. Being able to negotiate is crucial, and dont loose a buyer over $500

terracom,

The only strong recommendation I have is that you re-look at the engine type. It may be the 3L, but it is highly unlikely that the engine is the original BMW if it is as you indicate a V6. These cars should all have in-line 6 cylindar engines if they are BMW engines.

Well that's a highly debatable point. It is certainly not the most desirable to me.

I stand corrected, the six valve engine for the z3 is an inline-6 not a V6. All parts are original (except the tires). Photo attached for the curious.

Don't use that photo to advertise it, sorry but it makes the paint look dull. You need one that represents what the car really looks like and emphasizes the quality of the paint and finish.

Check out what is for sale on auto trader

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...Codes=MAN&mmt=[BMW[Z3[]][]]&Log=0&modelCode1=Z3&sortBy=derivedpriceASC&makeCode1=BMW&startYear=2001&maxMileage=30000&numRecords=25&searchRadius=0&showcaseOwnerId=96753&captureSearch=true&Log=0

My car is similar to yours except it is black, same year, options and mileage. I paid 16000 a couple of years ago and had a hard tike finding a low mileage example.

I would say ask 15,500 after you replace the front pads replaced and be prepared to take slightly less. I wouldn't let it go for less than 14000 though.
