£10 gave me half a tank?!

hi all,

bit of a strange one - almost ran out of fuel last night (had 3 Miles left on the dash before reserve) filled up with £10 which topped it to roughly 50 miles. On the drive to work at 60MPH without cruise control my 320i with the early 156BHP engine E92 went to over half way on the gauge and now shows over 210 miles?!

How could this be possible?

How many gallons do you get for L10?

I would think it would be about 2 if my information is right.
Most of us here are in the US so relating to this takes a little thought.
No Diesel 320's here.

Sorry, but £10 should only buy you a few litres of fuel; nowhere near a half tank. It sounds like you may have an issue with the sending unit in the fuel tank.

I recommend dumping a bottle of fuel system cleaner in your fuel tank (Chevron Techron, or equivalent). Then fill your tank completely to see if your gauge corrects itself, after driving a while. The chance of success is only about 50%, but it is a cheap first step. After that, you may have to look into further diagnosis (possible replacement) of the fuel sending unit.
