Want to pick up a used 335i... advice?

Ok guys, for a long time i've wanted to get a 335i sedan, however buying new I just cannot afford. I wouldn't mind getting the new 328i, but those things are seriously expensive.

Anyway, my question is that since I need to buy used. I wanted to know about reliability and if one year is better or more proven than another? Are the automatic 335's strong and reliable or is the manual always going to be a better bet because it's cheaper to replace just in case?

My apologizes if any of these seem like stupid questions, but I haven't found many answers just searching.

I like my WRX a lot, it has several mods and is at about 320whp/340 wtq, but i'm getting older and feel like it's more of a kids car I guess? I don't know, I also have just loved how the 335i's look and being a detailer I know how good I can get it looking/keep it looking

Thanks for any advice.

I've heard the the '08 year was a problematic one. Don't quote me on that, but I've heard that multiple times. I would go for an '11 and up. And with that sweet N54, you'll be able to squeeze a LOT more than 320 whp out of it.

Yeah, i've been looking at from 09 to about '11. It gets a bit out of my range after that anyway. How much does the sport or M package matter as far as handling? Is it a massive difference or can you just add some sway bars or somehing on a base model to make it handle just as well?

Oh, I would definitely get the M sport package. It comes with rear PDC, different rear and front bumpers(with rear diffuser), stiffer suspension, different wheels, and the M steering wheel. As far as how it affects handling, I'm not sure. I haven't driven the non-sport version of my car and the only 335i I drove was an 335is coupe with M sport.(which I think is standard in the M sport)

'09's proven to be a good year. N54 w/JB4 mighty sweet, but check the suspension....you'll be much happier fixing that + differential first.

In fact, you'll be delighted at how much better it can be....

What should I check with the suspension and diff? Sorry, I technically know very little about these cars.

OK - if you search, read; investigate....you will discover rear subframe bushings, pothole explosions, and limited slip differentials are popular subjects of discussion. Then you will find M division, starting with exactly the same car, has created a greatly superior experience.

You can have that.

Read that there will be an LSD option available through the M division for the 435.
