Steering wheel memory, plugs, and clearing service

Hey guys, new here, so still trying to learn my way around. I bought a used 2007 525i about 2 years ago. It is my first BMW but so far it is my favorite car ever. However, warranty is up now, and I just hit 100,000 miles so maintenance is on me. I'm descent mechanically, have done lots of minor work (brakes, alternators, clutch, etc) on other cars so I'm hoping I can handle the Beemer. Here's a couple questions to get me started.

-My steering wheel setting is just low enough to be irritating and the switch that raises it only works intermittently. I have tried to set the correct height in the memory, and although it works for the seat, it still returns the steering wheel to the old "too low" position when I pull the key. I was thinking maybe I should disconnect the battery to clear out the old setting, but know that causes a problem with some electronic systems on cars and wanted to check first (ex. radio thinks it has been removed from car and needs code to reset) Any other suggestions are welcome.

-As part of my 100k mile maintenance, spark plugs are due. I have changed plenty of spark plugs so am not concerned, but I watched a youtube video for a spark plug change and the guy recommended changing the "boot" with the plug. Not sure what a spark plug "boot" is, and didn't find listing for any at local part store. Will I need to buy from dealer?

-Once I change the plugs how do I update the computer so that it knows to reset for the plugs, other maintenance etc?

Thanks,
Josh
