Lighting

What's a good, reputable site for LED lighting? I tried ijdmtoy a while back...lets just say they weren't good. The quality was shoddy and cheap, to say the least.

Any recommendations?

Thanks guys

I would say E92-Lighting but I had a bad experience with them. I called to pick up an internal light kit. Guy said they only have one left and would call back in 5. Over an hour later I called back. Talked to the same guy and said it was sold out. Okay thanks for telling me. So I bought it off eBay for what looks like the exact same time for under $40 shipped. Saved me enough money for dinner that night, so I'm good.

Hmm, I will consider them. Anyone try CARiD.com? How about JCWitney?

I said this before, but it bears repeating: do not go for ijdmtoy. Very cheap quality.

Thanks! No I custom made them. I soldered about 300 SMD LEDs across all 4 rings. They are attached to a microprocessor I programmed to dim them according to ambient light. The brighter it is outside, the brighter the rings get. The darker it is, the dimmer they get. They get blinding at night.

You can get full ring replacements from Umnitza.com (V2 or V4), theretrofitsource.com (xB Rings), or Luce Produkt Orbs.

That's very impressive. Good job! I'll check those sites out. I would custom make mine, but I'm afraid of screwing it up. The halo lights on mine are just the regular, almost amber-looking kind. It would be nice to get white ones.

Thank you.

There are many plug and play bulbs. Options range from $25 to $250.

But to get full evenly lit rings, you have to go with a ring upgrade.

Oh I see. That's what I'll probably end up doing.

I said this before, but it bears repeating: do not go for ijdmtoy. Very cheap quality.

I have bought LED lighting from six different online stores (for both of my cars). If you didn't like the bulbs you got from ijdmtoy.com, you probably aren't going to be happy with many of the products from any of the stores.

Here's a list of where I got the bulbs for my BMW, the cost, and if they actually worked:

1. H10W LED Angel Eyes - $112.98 shipped. E-92 lighting was the only store that sold these. Shipping was fast. The installation was straightforward and they have worked great. Significantly better than halogens.

2. GP Thunder H7 7500k 55W Standard Wattage Bulbs - $16.97 shipped- replaced the high beams/DRLs. Purchased at http://www.gp-thunder.net/. These are not LEDs - in order to upgrade to LED, I would have to install load resistors. The problem with load resistors is fitting them inside the rubber cap with all the other wires. Also load resistors get very hot and I didn't want to accidentally melt any of the housing. Great customer service at GP Thunder and fast shipping. The bulbs match the angel eyes and Xenon headlights which is all I wanted to do - much better than the halogens. Not sure how long they will last based on the price, but I can afford $17 a year if necessary. I just ordered standard bulbs to replace the fog lights (and color match) in my car and my Mercedes from this site as well.

3. PY24W LED Turn Signal Light for BMW - $55.98 shipped - replaced front turn signals. Purchased at www.hidlightsusa.com (sister site to GP Thunder). Installation was a pain in the ass but the lights look great. Fast shipping and great customer service.

4. W5W Front Side Marker - JamStrait Amber LED 194A - $9.99 - purchased at Autozone. Works great.

5. W16W Back-up Lights - iJDMTOY Extreme Bright 2.5W High Power T15 Wedge Light LED Bulbs w/ projector for 168 194 912 921 906, etc - $22.48 shipped - These bulbs work but throw error codes presumably because the LED wattage is significantly lower than the standard bulb. I uninstalled and am not using. iJDMTOY quality is no different than the LEDs from the other stores, online or retail. But you can't buy the cheapest bulb either - there are several different price points for each type of bulb and I tried to go mid level.

6. P21W Brake Lights - JamStrait Red LED 7506R - $16.99 - purchased at Autozone. These bulbs work but throw error codes presumably because the LED wattage is significantly lower than the standard bulb. I returned these bulbs.

Good luck and remember, in many cases with LED bulbs, you get what you pay for, so try not to go too cheap.
