Just purchased my lease return 2011 z4 3.0 in titanium silver. i had ordered a 2014 but figured it would be a small savings to get the used one (by me). i am hopeful that this one is a keeper!!Click image for larger version

Welcome to the Fest. You are already showing how smart you are. CPO and lease return Z4's are great bargains compared to buying new. One thing about the 2011 3.0 - it was the last naturally aspirated (non-Turbo) Z4. That inline 6 is incredibly stable and yet provides good power. Enjoy your new toy.

Good move. The I6 3.0 non turbo is one of the best motors BMW has ever built. Coupled with a 6MT it makes a great roadster.

I too have a Z4 3.0 lease which ends on 8/31 and I am thinking about keeping this wonderful drive.

Would you mind sharing the process to repurchase and the pricing? Curious what the discount you received (if any from residual). My residual is 80% and BMWFS wants the 80%. Since I live in Texas I would need to pay taxes on the car again!

Thanks!

Two comments - 1) an 80% residual is off the charts high, even for a 24 month lease. I don't see how any vehicle could be worth that 2) Yes, in Texas you will be paying the full tax. Technically BMWFS paid the tax to Texas when you first leased and now the car is being sold to you.

Texas' tax treatment of leases sucks.

Beamn,

Take a look at the thread titled "Anyone Negotiate Residual..." Lots of good info there.

An 80% residual made for low lease payments, but now, no (normal) 3 year-old car is still worth 80% of its MSRP.

You may have to do what one poster there did. Turn it in, and wait for the dealer to reprice it, then try and buy it. The only added cost to you will be the disposal fee, tax and tags, and you can probably negotiate that back when you buy the car.

Good luck!

BTW, you may have had a 24 month lease, but a 2011 Z4 is now a 3 year old car. 2014's are on the lots for sale already.

Start talking with your salesman now, maybe he will have some creative ideas, but the process kinda works like this.

BMWFS offers you the car at the residual price. You decline. Make them a counter-offer, which they will likely refuse. Turn the car back in to the selling dealer.

The selling dealer HAS to buy the car from BMWFS for the residual price. They can then send it to auction or retail it on their lot, so let them no your interest before you turn it in, especially if they already have 2011's on their lot.

The dealer will try and recoup as much of their loss as possible, so do your homework, set a maximum price, and dont budge. Happy negotiating!

i had to turn it back in... No negotiating on a contracted price. dealer stocked it and I negotiated based on kbb and nada values. Was prepared to take the new order at another dealer 2.5 hours away if it was too over priced.
