Z4 Rasp noise on cold start...?

Hi guys - new to the forum and new to BMW! Recently bought an '06 Z4... not bad for a first car

So in the past week it's started to make a rasping noise when under cold start. The noise goes as soon as the engine is in idle, doesn't appear to affect performance, and also doesn't seem to occur when from a warm start.

Is this a common issue/easily solved/nothing to worry about?

Many thanks

Mine does that occasionally. My thoughts is that's its the starter not disengaging properly.

happened to me when I got my car back after repairs from a wreck. They had it a long time. When I got it back, As soon as I turned it on, it was a raspy for like maybe a second or second and a half. They told me it was the starter. But after using it the 1st few days I got it back, it went away and hasn't happened again. Not sure what caused it. Did you just have any work done on your car?

No work done on car.. Had washed my engine compartment out just prior to it doing this. It did it about five times that day and went away. Very very occasionally since, I've had it do it for less than a second.

Ive not had any work done to the car whilst Ive owned it. Interesting that your noise has stopped after a visit to a garage

So suggested to get it checked out or just leave it and wait and see?

The answer to that is how bad is it... How often does it occur....and can I afford a new starter/labour. Mine did it again after sitting without being driven for a few days so eventually this coming winter when I put it into winter storage I'm going to likely remove it and have it rebuilt.
