2007 328xi service indicator

Hello again Members:

My recently displayed "service indicator" (red car up on lift) icon adds the comment "brake pads at minimum thickness". My dash does not displace the front or rear brake pad warning. Is it possible that this is a mileage generated service light, rather than the warning from one of the brake pad sensors? Please advise. Thanks,

Alan

Does the red BRAKE light in the cluster that lights up when the parking brake is engaged stay lit?

I had exactly this issue happen tonight. This morning the pads were at 50,000 miles for front and back and now the indicator is showing just dashes and a warning that my pads are done.
The red parking brake indicator stays lit.
I have a new battery, so it can't be that.
Anyone know if this could be due to??

well if you can take the left front and right rear wheels off, you can check the pad sensors and see if they are worn thru, If you cannot do this your self, a trip to an independent shop or the BMW place would be inorder

next if you dont have them, the bently shop manual would be a good investment and the Braverian tech scan too. if you get the scan tool you can read codes and with the bentley book you can figure out the problem

good luck

If a sensor wire is broken for some reason, the car would assume the brakes are worn out. More than likely they really are worn out. You probably still have some time as the pads were still OK when the light came on for us so not a panic situation but once the red warning light stays on continuously it becomes annoying enough that new pads should be installed. I changed rotors as well but that's a debatable topic.
