M Performance Grills Installed With DIY Link

I put the m-performance kidney grills on my car a coupe of weeks ago, just been to busy to post.

I found a good DIY on F30post (http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=701830) although I just used my hands to remove the clips. It took me about 10 min from start to finish and I didn't use any tools. Quick tip, when you get the first grill out, take out the other one first before you put in the new one (makes it alot easier). And BE CAREFUL. It's easy to break the snaps!

I think they are totally worth installing. I love the look they give my car and it costs less than $100!

What's performance about them? Are these just the black ones?

Not a single thing. Purely aesthetics. However, that's what they are called in BMW's catalog, and I wanted to keep the naming consistent.

When you mention no tools, how did you get to the clips? Did you get to the clips from in front of the grill?

Looks good on your white F30. It doesn't look as good on an EBII like mine so I didn't get them.

Where did you get the grills for less than $100? I thought the port install cost was $170.

I reached in through the grill (could only get 1 finger through) and applied pressure on the clips. If your hands (or an assistant's) are small enough, you could use a small flat head to apply the necessary pressure.

That cost may include installation, but I got them at my local BMW dealer. They had a special for BMWCCA members where you got 20% off on parts (normally 15% for BMWCCA).

Do you mean you didn't even use the tools specified in the DIY instructions and used only your hands?

Quote from DIY instruction.
Tools Necessary:
T20 Torx
T30 Torx
small flat head or pick tool

Correct.

I only used my hands. The DIY link is for ease of removal of the grills, but takes more time. I was able to get of the grills using only my fingers to lift clips. I ended up not even opening the hood. That being said, the way I did it is riskier as there is a greater chance of damaging one of the clips.

Here i thought we had to drop the front facia off. If that is all this is getting done very soon...
