Nitrogen - not just for chem class anymore?

.

Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes! The big Nitrogen debate!

Is it better than plain, common, FREE air? These folks think so....

Years have passed since I recommended moon based helium, or nitrous oxide, as excellent tire fills -- time to go back to "green cap?"

.

mostly because shop air has moisture in it, and if the tanks are not drained regularly you could get a lot of water in your tires, which would only come into play in the winter when the water freezes in the tire and throws the balance off, till the tire heats up and the ice turns back to water.

if you know you have dry air, I see no benefit to other gases

yea I read the Bla Bla Bla, but since our tires last only about 30K miles its unlikely they will fall apart from the inside first

On a racecar that is worried about lap times, sure. On a daily driven vehicle, you can do without it.

The nitrogen does help prevent fluctuations in pressure due to moisture expansion but it doesn't justify having to pay to fill your tires...

I fill my run flats with nitrous oxide. That way when I get a blowout on the Cross Bronx Expressway at 5 pm on a Summer Friday I'll think it's funny.

I'm already using nitrogen! At least 78% nitrogen that is.

The small amount of oxygen I lose due to osmosis I can easily top off with a bicycle pump when the tires are cold in my garage. A good quality bicycle pump is all you need for "trimming" the tire press. (Along with an aircraft quality tire pressure gage.)

+1 for Nitrous!

Naturally, when on Nitrous fill, one keeps a bottle in the trunk for top-offs. Also handy at Summer gatherings, this versatile gas is preferred by 3 out o'4 BMW pilots!

You Oregon residents! Is the Lighter Than Air Fair still a-goin' on?

Truth be told, Someplace here on my hard drive, I have a pic of DSX's nitrous tank full of rarified air.

so when they install your tires I am sure they do it in a Nitrogen environment free from oxygen, or do they vacuum out all the air to full vacuum and then pump back up with Nitrogen

so in reality your tires still contain AIR

Why is comment wrong? Care to explain instead of just claiming it's false.

I was saying the moisture in air expands. Since nitrogen does not hold moisture, it isn't prone to the same expansion that happens with air.
