Bad day - got the bumper scratches

Hello there,

I am currently leasing a 2011 328i from BMW Financial for the past 32 months and I still have another 4 months to go. After work from home, I cleaned the car and I just noticed that the bumper scratches. I don't remember that I did it so probably it's from somewhere in parking lot

I do have a insurance maybe it's called "Safe lease" it's from "Auto Guard" and it covers any damage during the leases end inspection up to $5k in total.

I have attached the picture and please check the image. What should I do? Should I repair before the inspection? or do you guys think it would be under the Auto Guard insurance?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Sorry I don't know where should I start or what I need to do. Call the local BMW first? Could you tell me little more? Thanks.

Sorry someone did this to you and was too chicken sh$t to take responsibility for it. You might visit an auto body repair shop to see if they can buff out the scratches and how much it would cost as "iaebg" noted. If it's not too expensive, probably better to go with that then mess with insurance.

First of all, be careful of what you read on the forums and internet. Even if it's coming from me. Secondly, why are you asking us? Do you not have a copy of your policy, and or the phone number or email to your insurance company? Making a point here- how could we know for certain????????

That said, my friend had a policy he purchased through the dealership on his now returned lease of a Z4sDrive35is. It got beat up pretty good, the policy was a generous one, and as I recall he didn't have to worry about anything, and if I'm not mistaken the front bumper may have been a little worse for wear.

For the part about being careful about what you read, that will not buff right out, this can only be repaired by repainting. Let your insurance policy that you took out take care of this, I would be very surprised if it didn't. But- I've never taken out such a policy let alone ever leased a car.

The proper/best way to repaint that would be to repaint the entire bumper cover once it is removed from the car, baked to finish off the cure, reinstalled. Now if this was your car, uninsured, you could save some money with some luck if the whole thing was repainted on the car, the rest of the car being masked off, but most places will not guarantee work done this way. This is to the best of my knowledge which is admittedly limited.

Scratch Dotcor from Nu Finish works wonders. I swear by it. Pour a little on a soft cloth, then dab the affected spots. Let set for a minute. Then, with a clean part of the cloth, buff out the scratches. It should take some of the scratches away, but from the severity of what I see, it might not completely take it all out.

Good news! Worst case scenario is about $250 and that is if you have a good sized ding or gouge in your bumper. Someone can come to your house or work and repair within an hour or two. Had it done twice. Piece of cake for them. If it bothers you that bad (like it did me) Google your local bumper repair guys and give them a call. You can email or text them a picture and they will give you a quote. R E L A X now

I would say buffing it will make it less noticeable, that one deep scratch where you see a color change, is not going away with out paint
why not wait till you turn it in and see what the dealer says

Does your bumper have a clear bra on it, doesn't look like it from the picture but just making sure. The first week I had my car I went downtown and scratched the christ out of the front right of bottom of bumper because I underestimated how long the hood was, needles to say, I only peeled the clear bra really.

I'd do a bitch of scratch removal buffing on everything but that deep gash, and leave it at that, or just take it to a body shop and use that insurance you have.
