Question Drivetrain Malfunction

Hello All! I am hoping someone can help me. I have a 2011 535i that has shut off and displayed two messages. First a picture of a car lined in red displays Service Required since 01/2000 not sure why that appears and the car is a 2011). The second message displays Drivetrain Malfunction Drive moderately. Maximum drivetrain output not available. Consult Service Center. I saw several older posts on the internet but nothing recent that shows what the issue was. I am having the car towed to BMW as I type but they are closed since its Sunday. Any feedback would be great. Thanks in advance!

If I remember correctly, mine was a faulty intake VANOS solenoid.

Actually, there are several threads here that deal with the issue. It's not like something different is causing the issue now vs. 2011 or 2012 or 2013. Search will be your friend here (said like the true old-timer I have become now)

It actually can be any number of things ... injectors and or Vanos unit seem to be pretty common. In my case it was the accelerator pedal and the DME. The service due was pretty common early on, any software update done with your drivetrain malfunction fix should eliminate that problem.

My malfunction was due to a fuel pump failure.
