Exclamation E90 red steering light on dash

Hi
Am new to this and have a limited knolarge of cars

I have a 320d se 07 plate with a red steering light on dash. I have taken it to the auto electro toons and had it reprogrammed an after about 12 hours the light has come back on. I recently had the abs unit replaced and was wondering of this was a connection. And if if was the steering lock or the full column that would need replacing.

It has done 33,000 miles. And have only done 4,5 in last 2/3 years. Will this have any bearing on it.

Cheers

I think you have the ELV error.

The only way to get rid of this error is to replace the steering column. BMW released a new part number. The new part does not have the lock inside. You will need to have the new column coded into your car and have the SAS re-calibrated and reinitialized.

Eventually, the ELV will lock you out and you won't be able to start the car until you either reset the ELV counter with something like Toolset32 or short the appropriate pins on the ELV harness to reset the counter. Or of course replace the steering column with the new part #

Hmmm? What BMW advice, and who says?

Read codes - that'll give your quest direction.

ELV lock error should prevent you from starting your car. Sometimes it does not.
