E82 / E87 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by a naturaly aspirated inline 6 in the 128 or the turbo twin power inline 6 rocket sled 135.

Help needed from 118i F20 owners!

Does anyone notice a slight buzzing noise, which appears to come from the drivers side/accelerator area when accelerating? Seems to be most noticeable when at about 2000revs. I'm told by the BMW technicians that is a characteristic of the combustion/air induction system note on a 118i (not 116 or any diesel), which explains why it happens with throttle pedal operation. The dealership will not allow me to drive another 118i to experience this in another car for myself so I am having to rely on their word. Would be grateful for any of your experiences. Thanks.

Hi man ... Why won't they let you drive another car to experience it? I'm not too good with cars but my previous E87 had the issue you are describing.

I noticed the sound around 2000 rpm and it seemed like a metal rattle of some kind. Also reminded me of the sound of a diesel bus (public transportation kind). The sound was more apparent when releasing the throttle and also more in lower gears.

If the dealer isn't servicing your requests the way you like you can always go to another one nearby or contact HQ with a complaint.

My E87 engine was fully replaced before the lease ended and they said it was because of a factory error. The noise I heard was still there when the engine was replaced.
