E30 in tank problem?

Seems to me when ever my tank is at maximum capacity it drives excellent. But as soon as us gets below 3/4 the in line pump stops getting fuel randomly and then will cut back on all the sudden. Especially up hill down hill and Sharp turns. Also, the pump is extremely noisey, but its brand new. The second one in a week because I thought the other new one was bad.

Your in-tank low pressure pump is dying/dead. The high-pressure pump is getting starved. That's why it's noisy.

Re: E30 in tank problem?

Great. That means dropping the rear end and the tank to replace it? Could it be something clogging the strainer or is it definitely the in tank pump going out

No, you change the in-tank pump from inside the car. The access is under the rear seat.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/tech...-Fuel-Pump.htm

That's the first hit when I Googled BMW E30 fuel pump replacement.

You really need a manual and/or do some research on line for yourself.

No, I don't know for sure if it's the low pressure pump, but it sure sounds like that's what's going on. TEST IT.

If you haven't changed the fuel filter in any of this that would be a good idea but I too suspect it's the in-tank pump. Not difficult but definitely read up on it.

Click the LINK I sent you above^. It has the whole process explained, step-by-step. There's not a "ton" of hoses. Just three or four, and it's simple to take apart and put back together.

Thumbs down In tank pump removal woes

If this is putting you off, you better finda a competent mechanic you can afford to do your future work for you
Have a look unser your dash, if you want to see "a ton of wires"
Maybe have a stiff drink ready
