Talking 1200 mile service today!

I'm actually at almost 1500 miles. I apparently need to move closer to work! Those miles are racking up fast. It's been just about a month now. I got it on April 23.

I was actually amazed I got an appt. so fast. I called yesterday! That's weird. I wonder if something is up at Allison BMW...

It took me 3 months to put 1,200 miles on mine... My travel schedule's killing me...

Are you getting an oil change? I bought oil/filter when I got mine back from service, but haven't changed it yet... I will do it this weekend though. The oil is 6 months old...

No oil change. I'll wait until 3K or so, and then 7.5K, and every 7.5K after that.

6 days for me to put 1300 miles.

900 was from South Carolina to NJ. I'm going in for 1200 mile service tomorrow. Hopefully my break-in of the car was ok.

How was your drive from SC to NJ? I have to drive mine back to Atlanta, but I was thinking of taking a side trip to Charleston and maybe Augusta. The biggest problem is that they are all direct highway drives - taking the 'scenic' route would add at least 20% extra. Did you take the freeway any? And what did you do to vary your RPMs/speed/etc. for the break-in?

Gravedgr,

I took the Blue Ridge Parkway north. It's a senic and twisty road which doesn't allow to go faster than 60mph on the straight-aways. I was doing 30-50mph in various gears. i.e., 3-4-5. You can take breaks along the way. Make sure you take a look at a map before you go on the BRP. It might make your trip a lot longer than usual.

For my trip, I was on the BRP for 2 hours then took the exit to 40East to 85 North. Once you're off the Blue Ridge parkway, the only way to cool down the engine or vary the RPMs is by stopping for food & gas. I must have made 8 stops on my New Jersey. 15 minutes for gas, 30 minutes for food. 1 hour for sleep, etc. Try to catch a movie for a full engine cool down. I tried to watch star wars, but it was SOLD out. oh well.

Have fun on your drive,
Rays

I ended up getting mine done on Friday, after picking the car up on Monday. 1151 miles.

We picked up in SC, drove to Atlanta to have StonGard installed. Great installer, does the job overnight, and gave transportation to/from my hotel. mikemesser@yahoo.com

Then we drove to Pensacola to the Naval Air Museum, with a stop along the way at the International Motorsports Hall of Fame Museum at Talledega. Very neat. Most of the cars are NASCAR, but the Hall of Fame covers all forms of motorsports. From designers (Buggatti, Shelby, Ferrari, Porsche) to F1 (Senna, Prost) to Land Speed (Campbell, Breedlove, Afrons) to sports cars (Holbert) to NASCAR.

Then to Tallahasee via the shore route. Then on to Orlando to visit a friend who has an E36 M3. That is where I had the service done. Then back home to MD over three days.

Total 2500 miles in almost exactly 7 days. Drove out of the delivery bay at about 3:30 on Monday, got home about 3:00 on the next Monday.
