Question My car is not runnning when turn the ignition

Hello,

I have 2000 BMW 328i.I have been out of USA for 2 months for the summer vacation. I left my keys to my friend and requested him to run the car once a week to prevent the battery run out.
Last week, he run the car for 15-20 minutes.Yesterday, he told me that when he tried to run the car, car did not give any response and it is still same.Lights of the car are working.
What may be the problem?

The lights working don't mean the battery has enough charge to start. Test battery first that is the most simple thing to do. A dead battery could mean a bad alternator if the battery isn't old or wasn't run down by a light. So start with a battery test. Have him take it more than one place most of the time those jackwagons tell you your battery is fine and it isn't.

*this....more then likely the battery doesn't have enough power to turn the car over, but enough to run lights.. have your battery tested like tannerT said.

Could be a bad key. Try another key.

e46 wiki link above tells how to access hidden computer readings including battery voltage. it's probably low, and if it's more than 4-5 years old, you may need to consider getting a new one.

Download and print out to keep in glove box.
Useful for voltage, temperature, and fuel tank readings on each side of the tank.

Tell your fried to join on here and post a small video of what's happening. It's hard enough to diagnose something like this without having a middle-man.
