I'm getting really excited about the Labor Day auto-x at Grattan Raceway. In 2011 it was the first event I ever participated in, and I literally went flying off the track sideways in turn #8. For a second or two I really thought I was going to wind up in that lake. Wow, my bimmer and I have been through quite a lot since then. I can't wait to find out how much we've improved over the past two years. Hopefully someone there will be nice enough to let me use their camera for a run or two so I can post some videos in here.

Looks like Grattan just resurfaced the entire track! Should be great fun, if a bit oily.

Subscribed.

From past experience I've spun at 80mph on the Ring (scroll to 2:44 for ze action)

..still managed to fulfill my goal of <10min/lap with 09:58 on lap 3.
a picture from Karussell as well:

I've also hit up a local track:

..which I will revisit in about a month now that I have the lightest OEM 15" alloys for which I've ordered Federal semi-slick RS-R tyres (205/50 R15)

(the ones I got are the ones on the right)

You can also try:

http://floridaregionscca.com/

http://www.autocross.com/autoc/seclub.shtml

You probably put about the same amount of stress on your car's suspension in a full season of autocross as you do in one track day event. You can go ahead and have the rear subframe mounting locations reinforced (which is a pretty big job), or you can get that area inspected and if it's OK just keep an eye on it.

I saw Miami in your avatar ID and thought your were still in south FLA. Central Florida Region SCCA has an AutoX about every other weekend. www.cfrsolo2.com

The Martin Sports Car Club runs a lot of autocross events in this area too. http://www.martinscc.org/

The autox at Grattan Raceway was awesome, even if my co-driver did beat me by .037 seconds in my own car. Haven't found any pics of me driving yet, but here's a pic of me running for my life...

Amazingly enough, the driver actually recovered without going off the track or taking out any cones. The photographer managed to get a lucky shot of that split second after the brakes locked up when I came to the conclusion that left was the better choice. Looks like my friend committed to it a little bit quicker than I did. We probably shouldn't have been standing there, either way.

Got the CORRECT Schroth E36 clip in harness yesterday and installed it today. The HMS Motorsports site does differentiate between coupes, sedans, and cabrios, but the harness you get if you order the part number shown requires a 3 passenger rear seat belt configuration and cabrios are only set up for two back seat passengers. HMS was really great to to work with and they got me the correct set up.
What's cool about the clip in system is it only takes a minute or two install or remove for autoX or the track and it uses the OEM pretensioner so you don't have to worry about submarining effect....
I'm looking forward to being secured better and not having to wear out my seat motors to get the OEM harness snugged up.

Anyone else been following the SCCA Solo nationals? E36 drivers are still cleaning up in DSP, but it looks like the FR-S/BRZ is mixing it up a bit in STX. Saw E36's scattered around a few other classes, too.

Nice. I need to look into something like that for my car. I don't have the sport seats and the stock seat belt isn't all that helpful. I have to keep my left foot jammed hard on the dead pedal to keep from sliding all over the place.

I've been tracking the Solo Nationals. 5 or 6 people from our chapter are competing up there. No Bimmers from our group though .

One of our instructors (Darren Seltzer) won FM by almost 3.5 seconds. Two of our other instructors took 4th and 16th in that same class.

An E90 M3 took third in F stock amongst all the Mustang Boss 302 and Shelbys.

It's still impressive that 15 year old E36's can still be relatively competitive with current day cars with just a few mods. Audi TTs own D stock where unmodded E36s would be, but with a little camber and a set of tires/wheels equivalent to what comes off the showroom now makes us a force to reckon with in STX and DSP.

Until you get something else, use the inertia lock trick. Slide your seat back behind your normal driving position. Yank on the stock belt really quick to get the inertia lock to catch, then hold the tension and slide your seat forward to where the belt is really tight against your body. It takes a few tries to figure out how far back you need to be to be really cinched in good when you're at your preferred position, but once you get it figured out it's much better than sliding around loose.

But yea, it's that or find a huge parking lot that belongs to some institution and hoon around in it and hope the authorities don't bust me. There's always the once a year deal at Homestead-Miami...
