Re: what amp(s)/speakers should i get to replace my DSP?
Hi Ryan, I just went through this with my 2001 x5 stock navigation it is a pain in the butt. First get rid of everything, speakers are 8 ohm, amp is integrated into everything. The only thing I used were the existing speaker wires. 6.5" speakers will work with a little dremmel action. I installed Alpine components in the front and was able to fit them in the stock spaces. I made mounts for my amps also Alpine in the space where the CD and nav units were in back and removed the existing sub JL makes a good replacement. I mounted my sub amp there though and put a 8" Alpine vented in cargo area. There are no good after market mounting brackets for the head unit in that car I could find so I made one out of my stock head unit. Yeah I cut it into pieces. ASWC steering wheel control data is the white wire with the yello and a almost invisible gray stripe. Good luck rcas are a pain to get to the rear also, passenger side is best I think, there are battery cables on both sides I ran mine on top of the cover down the right side. I recomend good shielded rcas to avoid alternator noise. Alpine component front and rear. 2 Alpine amps, 300 watt front, 300 watt rear, Boss sub amp 600 watt, Alpine 8" ported R series. Alpine DD dvd head unit. Sounds great.
