Just installed after-market touchscreen Navigation/Stereo/dvd unit!

I just completed installing Eonon D5124F 7inch digital touch screen car DVD player/Stereo with built-in GPS.
http://www.eonon.com/Car-GPS/Specifi...MW/D5124F.html

It's a great replacement for my ancient cassette player/radio/cd player riddled with missing pixels on my 1997 528 with non-dsp audio! It's very OEM looking and the stereo output is incredible. The button lights perfectly match the rest of the dash lights. The system is compatible with the steering wheel controls and works great. It boots up with BMW logo and everything just works - GPS, Ipod/Iphone interface (charges my Iphon4 and plays music on it), Radio with RDS, SD memory card (my entire music collection is now in 16gb SD card), USB, blue tooth and auto backup camera. The dvd plays movies even when the car is on the move! The install was plug and play and no coding required.

My car is now transformed into an entertainment center and I now enjoy driving much, much more than ever before. At $410 (player +backup camera) + 2 years warranty, it was a no brainer to go for the unit. The customer support from Eonon was awesome and all my installation queries and jams were cleared. The shipment was very fast - from HongKong- arriving at my door in 7 days. I was told by eonon the 2 years warranty does not apply for purchases from the ebay resellers, so I skipped them.

My audio system has the factory amplifier, Blaupunkt Blue Magic XLf 200 Subwoofer System (in the armrest)), Boston Acoustics SC50speakers in the front and Infinity reference component speakers at the rear. The eonon D5124 powers so well through this setup. The output is clean with tight, thumping bass. I'm a very happy man and with a smile on my face while driving my 528. I'm keeping this car for the next 20 years!

Very nice! How's the nav/GPS? Do you get traffic reports or can it link to google maps traffic reports?

Wow, it's only $369 now! Very tempting...

The nav is good and very customizable- male/lady voice, type of English (British, US, Australian), speed camera alerts etc. I'm still exploring the system and I can tell you it's very detailed with lots of options.

The unit is actually now going for $339 and it's absolutely a no brainer especially that it comes with 2 years warranty. Careful when you make up your mind- buy direct from Eonon and not from the ebay resellers.

How difficult was the back up camera to install/wire?

Your review is making this very tempting......wife was just telling me how I am impossible to buy b-day/x-mas presents for!!

It was fairly easy (3 on a scale of increasing difficulty 1-10). I routed the wire from the navigation unit through behind joint of top and bottom dash panels on passenger side, down side of glove box area, door sills, behind back seat through the little hole on non-pass-through vehicles, into the trunk wiring harness. Just put some Vaseline on the camera wires and it will be very easy to route them through the trunk wiring harness with a cloths hanger- took me like 5 minutes. Make sure to bend the tip of the hangar so that you don't accidentally damage the wires in the harness or the harness itself which is protected from water.

On hindsight, I'd get a backup camera that replaces license plate light. It's more discrete and cleaner looking. It comes with it's own light so you won't lose plate light it replaces. Saw good ones on ebay.

It doesn't have OBC features. I'm a software engineer and I'm beginning to play with the idea of hacking into this units embedded system. It runs on Windows CE after all.

I believe the latest Dynavin unit can display OBC data but that thing costs $900 +

The non DSP equipped cars wouldn't have this issue correct?

Musa,

Did you have to purchase the "Extended Installation Wiring Harness"? I haven't opened up my business CD unit yet, but am a little confused with their pictures showing the plug on the wiring harness which is not compatible with the Eonon...Was everything plug and play as far as connecting your unit to the internal harness? Can you also take a pic from the outside showing where you placed the camera?

Also you have a couple of cables coming out of the cup holder slots..Looks like a usb and aux cable. Do those remain outside like that all the time?

I think the extended wiring harness is for vehicles that already have NAV that's being replaced. I didn't need it. The unit is shipped with two harness's- 17 pin and 40 pin (for later model E39/X5) - see item labeled #7 in the bottom picture here http://www.eonon.com/Car-GPS/Specifi...MW/D5124F.html. You can have an online chat with customer support. They're very eager to help. Connecting the internal harness to the unit was plug and play.

I'll post the camera placement later as the car is not with me at the moment. Yes, those cables coming out of the cup holders are USB and Ipod/Iphone cables. I prefer to have them there at the moment and they're always out although I can stuff them back in. I don't use those fragile cup holders anyway. Later, I may route them such that they come off the ash tray. I initially had them in the glove box- they're quite long.

This looks just perfect! No mention of cars with DSP or trunk-mounted CD pack. Appreciate any feedback you have on these.

The $339 price is without the USA map package. The maps add an additional $30. Do you know if the unit will display Google maps off an iPhone or Android via USB or Bluetooth?

I ripped my entire CD collection and copied them to 16GB SD memory card. I won't ever need the OEM CD drive- it's now obsolete as far as I'm concerned. The Eonon DVD player of course will work with your CDs.

I'm not sure about DSP compatibility. Ask customer support or visit Eonon facebook page and post your queries: https://www.facebook.com/Eonon.Official

Here're the camera pics. In hindsight, I would get the license plate light camera as it has a cleaner look and more descrete and secured properly.

Cool install. Did you still need to instsll the OBC and leave it in your glove box?

Displaying Google maps through iPhone would be sweet, but I think they would like to make some money out of their GPS/Nav software unless musa manages to hack it

Since quite a few people seem to be interested in this unit, I wonder what they would think about a group buy from bimmefest members...might be worth asking them...Also as far as I am aware, Albo was the first one to install this unit in his car. He would probably be able to answer long term reliability questions.
